Position Description

Were hiring a Commissioning Technician to join our team in Boise Idaho. Its full-time and on-site and youll be out at project sites across healthcare commercial retail and education work not stuck doing one type of building over and over.

Day to day you will support commissioning efforts by:

  • Turning contract documents and approved submittals into commissioning plans checkout forms and functional test forms
  • Getting out to job sites to see how installation stacks up against design intent catching problems before they turn into bigger ones
  • Performing functional performance testing on whatevers in scope then chasing down test-and-balance back-checks until every last issue is closed out
  • Writing the final commissioning report the owner actually reads and acts on
  • Learning the ropes from someone whos been doing this for years then taking on more of it yourself as youre ready

Travel runs around 50% of the time but its built to work with your life not against it and your supervisor will help you plan around it. A year in you should be running your own projects with minimal oversight. If youre already working as a field technician HVAC technician or commissioning technician and youre ready to stop installing and start verifying how systems actually perform this is a solid next move.

Position Salary Range*

The expected salary range for this position is $62000 to $75000 annually.

Required Qualifications**
  • 3 years of experience commissioning commercial HVAC systems or 8 years of commercial HVAC or refrigeration field or start-up experience (installation troubleshooting or performance testing). A bachelors degree in mechanical engineering may substitute for up to 2 years of experience.
  • Basic understanding of HVAC and refrigeration system components including RTUs chillers boilers VAV systems and controls
  • Comfortable working onsite with overnight travel up to 50% of the time (multi-day site work is common)
  • Ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications
  • Strong technical writing and client communication skills
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel Word and Outlook; experience with Bluebeam or similar PDF markup tools
Preferred Qualifications**
  • Direct experience commissioning commercial HVAC or refrigeration systems including functional performance testing start-up or controls verification
  • Experience with building automation controls and sequences (BACnet Modbus) including point-to-point verification and trend log analysis

Position Responsibilities***
  • Review contract documents and approved submittals to build commissioning plans system checkout forms and functional test forms for each project
  • Conduct site visits to assess installation progress verify equipment against design intent and record issues in the Issues Log
  • Execute functional performance testing on HVAC refrigeration and related mechanical systems using measurement tools and data loggers to verify airflow temperature pressure and control sequences
  • Document test results and field observations in clear reports for the commissioning team and building owner
  • Perform test and balance back checks through additional site visits and confirm resolution before final sign-off
  • Compile final commissioning reports summarizing testing outcomes and any outstanding items for the owner
  • Support owner training sessions with technical insight into system operation and commissioning findings
  • Interpret construction documents equipment specs and process drawings to confirm equipment meets applicable codes

*Actual pay will be determined based on the candidates years of experience licensure status location level of proficiency and other job-related factors (as permitted by law). This position is also eligible for an annual performance bonus.
