ABOUT THE ROLE
A sophisticated Los Angeles litigation practice is seeking a mid-level associate to handle complex business disputes for companies executives investors and entrepreneurs across California. The practice handles high-stakes matters involving contracts business torts partnerships corporate governance fraud and other commercial conflicts in state and federal courts. Associates are given meaningful responsibility for cases including depositions substantive motion practice direct client communication and opportunities to develop courtroom experience. Compensation ranges from $210000-$335000 depending on experience.
WHAT YOULL DO
- Handle complex commercial disputes in California state and federal courts from initial pleadings through trial preparation
- Draft pleadings dispositive motions discovery motions briefs and other substantive litigation filings
- Take and defend depositions and participate in hearings mediations settlement proceedings and trial preparation
- Develop case strategy manage discovery coordinate with experts and take ownership of significant portions of matters
- Communicate directly with clients regarding litigation strategy business risk case developments and potential resolution
- Work closely with experienced trial attorneys while developing the judgment and advocacy skills needed to independently manage sophisticated disputes
WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR
- J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to the California Bar
- 37 years of commercial litigation experience at a law firm
- Experience handling complex business disputes in California state or federal court
- Strong legal research brief-writing analytical and oral advocacy skills
- Deposition motion argument arbitration mediation or trial experience is preferred
- Ability to take substantive ownership of matters while communicating effectively with clients and senior attorneys
