Within TCCS Central Facilities Services plays an important role in keeping this highly collaborative academic community operating at its best. From maintaining critical campus infrastructure to supporting the day-to-day needs of seven institutions the team offers HVAC professionals an opportunity to apply their technical expertise across a diverse and complex facilities environment.

As a Commercial HVAC Service Technician youll bring senior-level technical expertise to the inspection maintenance troubleshooting repair and installation of commercial HVAC systems throughout The Claremont Colleges.

This isnt a role focused on just one type of equipment or building. Youll work across a broad range of commercial systemsincluding chillers boilers cooling towers DX and VRF systems air handlers pumps refrigeration equipment and building automation controlswhile helping ensure reliable safe and efficient operation of campus facilities.

The regular schedule is Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. This position participates in an on-call rotation that includes weekends and may occasionally require holiday evening or overtime work.

Your Contribution Will Likely Include

• Maintain troubleshoot and repair commercial HVAC equipment including chillers boilers cooling towers DX systems ranging from 2 to 200 tons split systems ducted and ductless VRF systems water pumps heat pumps fans air handling units heating units refrigeration equipment and air compressors.

• Use blueprints manufacturer instructions and technical documentation to determine the appropriate sequence of operations for maintaining repairing and adjusting HVAC and refrigeration equipment.

• Conduct preventive and special maintenance inspections evaluate equipment condition and recommend repairs that support long-term system reliability.

• Troubleshoot electrical mechanical and pneumatic issues using appropriate diagnostic and testing equipment.

• Replace and service compressors pumps pump seals motors and related components.

• Adjust and calibrate pneumatic mechanical and electrical controls for proper temperature and pressure settings.

• Access and navigate building automation control systems through front-end computer terminals.

• Perform factory-level equipment start-ups and respond to emergency service calls.

• Complete detailed service reports documenting work performed system readings findings and recommendations.

• Support major HVAC installations including ductwork piping air conditioning units and related equipment.

• Contribute to Air Conditioning Shop and Central Facilities Services operations while maintaining a strong commitment to safety and customer service.

Experience You Will Bring

• High school diploma or equivalent combination of education training and experience.

• Seven to ten years of demonstrated commercial HVAC experience applying the techniques of the trade.

• Universal EPA certification.

• Thorough knowledge of air conditioning and refrigeration thermodynamic and psychrometric principles.

• Strong commercial HVAC troubleshooting skills across electrical mechanical and pneumatic systems.

• Ability to interpret blueprints manufacturer documentation and written and verbal technical instructions.

• Ability to access and work with building automation control systems.

• Strong mathematical skills necessary to calculate measurements areas volumes and approximate weights.

• Ability to safely climb ladders crawl in attics and under buildings work at heights and in varying weather conditions lift and carry heavy equipment and work in positions required to service campus equipment.

• Ability to wear required protective clothing and equipment and comply with applicable OSHA and Cal/OSHA requirements.

• Ability to participate in an on-call rotation be contacted during non-working hours and work overtime as needed.

• Valid drivers license with a driving record acceptable to TCCSs automobile liability insurance provider.

• Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain a professional service-oriented presence while working throughout The Claremont Colleges community.

Preferred experience includes:

• Hands-on experience servicing replacing installing setting up and commissioning VRF systems particularly Mitsubishi Carrier and LG equipment.

• Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) or Energy Management Systems (EMS).

• HVAC/R Mechanic Certificate.
