Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced CNC Programmer / Machinist with strong hands-on expertise in a precision job shop environment. This role requires an individual who can independently program set up machine and troubleshoot complex low-volume/high-mix precision components.
The ideal candidate has extensive experience working with tight tolerances frequent setup changes and custom parts for multiple customers. Strong CAM programming skills blueprint interpretation and machining expertise are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Review work orders engineering drawings blueprints and technical specifications to determine machining requirements.
Program CNC mills using CAM software (any platform) including tool paths offsets zero/reference points and machining parameters.
Set up and operate CNC mills including 3-axis and 4-axis machines.
Design and build fixtures tooling setups and workholding solutions (chucks vises collets bushings stops etc.).
Perform first article inspection and verify part accuracy against drawings and tolerances.
Monitor machining operations such as drilling milling turning facing knurling and threading.
Troubleshoot machining issues and adjust programs tooling and machine settings as required.
Maintain quality standards by ensuring adherence to specifications and inspection requirements.
Perform tool changes sharpening replacements and machine adjustments.
Conduct preventive maintenance and ensure machines operate safely and efficiently.
Document production activities setup changes and machining processes accurately.
Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve processes and efficiency.
Ensure all safety procedures and workplace standards are followed at all times.
Required Qualifications
Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience in a precision CNC job shop environment.
Strong experience machining custom low-volume high-mix parts for multiple customers.
Ability to independently program set up and operate CNC machines.
Strong blueprint reading and geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T) skills.
Proven experience working with tight tolerances and complex machining requirements.
Ability to perform basic math geometry and trigonometry for machining calculations.
Experience in frequent setup changes and fixture design.
Experience in a high-precision job shop environment (custom parts manufacturing)
Exposure to multiple CNC control systems (Haas Fanuc Mazak etc.)
Experience with process improvement and lean manufacturing principles
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in machining operations
