Job Summary
Position SummaryThe M5 Machinist is a senior-level skilled trades role responsible for independently setting up operating troubleshooting and optimizing machining processes to manufacture complex precision components. This role requires advanced technical expertise strong problemsolving skills and the ability to work with minimal supervision while ensuring quality safety and productivity standards are M5 Machinist may provide technical guidance to junior machinists and contribute to continuous improvement ResponsibilitiesIndependently set up operate and optimize CNC and/or manual machining equipment (e.g. mills lathes multiaxis machines)Interpret complex engineering drawings GD&T specifications and work instructionsSelect tooling determine feeds and speeds and optimize machining strategies for efficiency and qualityLoad edit and troubleshoot CNC programs (within authorized scope)Perform firstarticle inprocess and final inspections using advanced precision measurement toolsDiagnose and resolve machining tooling and process issues to minimize scrap and downtimeWork to tight tolerances and highquality surface finish requirementsProvide technical support and informal mentoring to less experienced machinistsCollaborate with engineering quality and production teams on new or improved processesMaintain accurate production inspection and maintenance documentationEnsure compliance with all occupational health and safety standards and safe work practicesActively contribute to continuous improvement lean manufacturing and quality initiativesQualifications & ExperienceRequired:High school diploma or equivalentJourneyperson Machinist certification or equivalent experienceSignificant experience as a machinist including advanced setup and troubleshootingStrong ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings and GD&TDemonstrated expertise using precision measuring and inspection equipmentIndepth knowledge of machining processes tooling materials and tolerancesAbility to work independently with a high degree of accuracy and accountabilityPreferred:Red Seal Machinist certification (Canada) or equivalent credentialExperience with advanced CNC equipment (e.g. multiaxis live tooling subspindles)Experience with CAD/CAM systems and process developmentExperience supporting prototype smallbatch or highprecision manufacturingCompetenciesAdvanced technical and machining knowledgeStrong problemsolving and analytical skillsAttention to detail and quality-focused mindsetEffective communication and teamworkAbility to prioritize work and meet production deadlinesCommitment to safety and continuous improvementPhysical & Work Environment RequirementsAbility to stand walk and perform repetitive tasks for extended periodsAbility to lift up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodationManual dexterity and strong handeye coordinationWork performed in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise rotating equipment metal chips oils and coolantsHealth & SafetyThe M5 Machinist is expected to comply with all applicable occupational health and safety legislation company safety policies and PPE Fredericks Manufacturing LLC has an industry competitive extended health and benefits plan & pays 100% of Medical and Dental premiums for employees.
