Title:CDL Coordinator

Bargaining Unit/Salary Level:Salary and Benefits commensurate with the Agreement between the MCCS Trustees and the MEA Administrators Unit. This position is currently pending classification but is expected to be in the vicinity of $65000. This is a grant-funded position and is contingent upon continued funding and need.

Responsibilities:

The CDL Coordinator provides both classroom and behind-the-wheel instruction to students pursuing their Commercial Drivers License (CDL). Responsibilities include teaching topics such as vehicle operation safety regulations vehicle systems trip planning and driver responsibilities; assessing student performance; and providing advising and support to help students successfully meet licensing and career goals. The Coordinator also provides hands-on training in vehicle operation backing parking and road driving while evaluating student competency and preparing students for CDL skills testing and licensure.

In addition to instruction the CDL Coordinator is responsible for maintaining a safe and effective training environment through routine inspection of training vehicles and equipment coordination of maintenance and repairs and oversight of the training yard to ensure compliance with safety standards and operational readiness. The CDL Coordinator also manages key program operations including scheduling recordkeeping regulatory compliance coordinates medical testing and program development. The role also works closely with industry employers to support recruitment and job placement efforts while ensuring training vehicles equipment and facilities are maintained in a safe and effective operating condition.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Must be 22 years of age or older
  • Valid State of Maine Class A license and approval through the Colleges vehicle insurance policy to drive college-owned vehicles
  • Valid State of Maine CDL Instructor license

Preferred Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Associates degree
  • Basic First Aid Training
  • Supervisory experience
  • HAZMAT and/or passenger endorsements
  • 10 years experience driving a commercial motor vehicle requiring a CDL A
