POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Clinical Pharmacist on the Operations team you will be highly integrated at the front-line of medication production verification and distribution with oversight of technician workflow in the central inpatient pharmacy and sterile compounding suites. You will have the opportunity to cross-train in satellite pharmacy areas and cross-cover clinical pharmacy shifts as needed.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES / DUTIES:

Operational Responsibilities

  • Reviews and processes medication orders evaluating for appropriateness and compliance with hospital and accreditation standards and state/federal regulations

  • Identifies medication related safety events reports errors and provides recommendations for process improvement

  • Assists central pharmacy staff technicians and purchasing team with supply chain management medication shortages and safe distribution of medication to admitted patients

  • Triages medication related concerns with decentralized clinical pharmacists to optimize patient care and minimize delays in medication delivery

  • Oversees the production of sterile non-sterile and hazardous compounding operations to ensure compliance with USP <797> <795> and <800>

  • Receives and distributes controlled substances throughout the hospital

  • Assists the leadership team with initiatives to improve workflow or on special projects as requested

JOB REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION:

  • Requires a Doctorate of Pharmacy or Bachelors of Science in Pharmacy with an advanced degree and a PGY1 pharmacy residency or at least three years of equivalent work experience preferred

  • Work requires a valid license to practice pharmacy in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts by the hire date.

  • Board of Pharmacy Specialties certification is preferred

EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience in direct supervision of technical support staff for clinical and/or service and operational programs is desirable.

  • Proficiency in standard computational office-suite applications including word-processing and relational database manipulation is required.

  • Prior hospital pharmacy experience preferred but not required.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Work requires a comprehensive understanding of the procedures systems and equipment used by pharmacists and technicians in the pharmacy as well as a high level of proficiency in performing pharmacists duties and responsibilities.

  • Work requires a high level of analytical ability organizational and personal management skill and focus to ensure the concerted approach to operations.

  • Practice experience working with as well as revising and/or implementing information systems.

  • Excellent interpersonal and telephone communication skills.

  • Professional in conduct and demeanor.

  • Proficient with standard software used in healthcare office setting (i.e. MS Word Excel web browser etc)

Compensation Range:

$43.03- $62.50

This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications. However our approach to determining base pay is comprehensive and a broad range of factors is considered when making an offer.
