Job Summary

Clemons Library at the University of Virginia is seeking student Circulation Assistants for the 2026-27 school year. The Library Circulation Assistant will provide customer service at the Clemons 4th floor main desk. The position duties include but are not limited to checking out books videos and equipment items to patronsansweringgeneralinformational questions; checking in returned materials and getting them organized and re-shelved; providing basic IT support for printers and desktop computers.

The Clemons Library main desk is staffed with student assistants from 8am to 2am and all days of the week. Weekly work schedules are built around student class schedules and availability. Extra consideration will be given to students who are willing and able to commit to early morning shifts late night shifts and/or weekend shifts.

Little experience or previous training required. Perform routine clerical office support duties such as filing running errands photocopying shelving books handling and distributing mail and other written materials. Ability to operate basic office machinery answering telephone calls or emails making appointments. Must follow oral and written instructions and can work effectively with others. On-site training and supervision are continuously provided.

Undergraduate or graduate students with work-study are strongly preferred but it is not an absolute requirement.For a student hired as work-study the position start date is 8/25/26 and the end date is 5/14/27.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This is primarily a sedentary job involving extensive use of desktop computers. Some easy lifting of books and pushing of book carts is required.
