An integral part of our organization is our corporate claims management and legal department. We are looking to grow this department and continue to provide excellent customer service to our customers carriers and agents. The Claim Specialist will focus on the intake investigation and resolution of cargo claims.
Responsibilities
- Manage the full life cycle of cargo claims related to damaged lost and rejected freight
- Provide relevant insurance documentation to customers and carriers
- Organize and request documentation for cargo claims from agents customers and carriers including bills of lading delivery receipts inspection reports and photos
- Review LTL carrier tariffs bills of lading and terms of carriage to determine claim liability and validity
- Negotiate with customers consignees shippers and carriers following a rejected or damaged load to determine salvage options claim values and settlements within applicable policy limits
- Request insurance coverage for all-risk loads on a case-by-case basis and create insurance certificates for each load
- File and track claim reports with Carrier 411 Truckstop and Cargonet
- Provide claim updates/ vendor hold statues to carrier factor companies
- Locate and develop case-relevant information including documentation and statements from involved parties to support claim investigation validity determinations and resolution
- Monitor deadlines and juggle calendars to ensure timely claim filing and response within carrier claim windows
- Act as a liaison between customers carriers internal operations accounting legal and insurance teams to provide claim updates and drive timely resolution
- Maintain detailed claim records in applicable transportation management systems (TMS) or claims software
- Ensure claims are handled in accordance with applicable transportation laws and carrier liability rules including the Carmack Amendment
- Track claim data analyze trends and report on recovery rates financial impact and opportunities for corrective action
- Collaborate with internal teams to implement process improvements and reduce recurring freight claims
- Other duties as assigned by the Claims and Legal Department
Requirements
- Willingness and ability to learn required cargo claims processes and/or 5 years or less of specific experience in cargo claims adjustment
- Familiarity with LTL freight operations bills of lading carrier tariffs freight liability and transportation law preferred but not required
- Customer service orientation and negotiation skills
- Strong analytical and investigative abilities with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to communicate efficiently and effectively via oral and written methods with customers carriers and internal teams
- Proficiency with logistics software transportation management systems (TMS) claims software and Microsoft Office preferred
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple claim deadlines
- CCPAC (Certified Claims Professional Accreditation Counsel) preferred but not required
- Ability to work in a hybrid or on-site capacity
