CLASSIFIED SERVICE JOB SPECIFICATIONJOB CLASS:ASSISTANTLEVEL:IPOSITION TITLE:CHILD NUTRITION ASSISTANT ICLASS DEFINITION:Positions within this class are assigned to assist with all components of the cafeteria function in a school kitchen. Successful candidates in this class will typically have a background in one or more trades of the food service industry a demonstrated ability to deal effectively with a variety of personalities and/or the ability to handle money efficiently and effectively. Positions within this class require the ability to work with food and with children and teachers within a set schedule. Levels within this class are differentiated by virtue of the degree of skills and expertise required to perform successfully and by the assignment made. Positions within this class are under the direct supervision of the Director of Food Services or DEFINITION:Under supervision to assist in the preparation of school lunches; to serve lunches at a school cafeteria and to do related work as OF DUTIES:Set up serving linePrepare fruits vegetables sandwiches beverages and other foodstuffsApportion fruits vegetables and other items according to established guidelinesServe food items to students and staffWash serving and food preparation areasMake simple arithmetic computationsOperate dishwasher and other mechanical kitchen equipmentStore unused foodsClean dishes trays pots pans utensils and kitchen equipmentPerform cashiering duties as assignedOperate a computerAccount for money receivedPerform other related duties as assigned EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent and four college semester units in school food service preparation or management; or a recognized food services certificate. One year experience in school or commercial food preparation and kitchen maintenance.
