ROLE PROFILE
Chief Architect Innovative Medicine
The Chief Architect Innovative Medicine Sector is the senior architecture leader responsible for defining and governing the technology architecture strategy across the Innovative Medicine sector including R&D Supply Chain Commercial Data AI Cloud Integration Security and Enterprise platforms.
This role establishes the sector-wide architectural vision principles reference designs standards and governance model that guide technology investments and ensure alignment with business strategy digital transformation priorities and enterprise technology direction.
The Chief Architect partners closely with sector business leaders product and platform teams Technology Services Information Security & Risk Management Enterprise Architecture and architects across other J&J sectors to promote common enterprise architecture principles reusable platforms and consistent technology decision-making.
The role serves as the architecture steward for Innovative Medicine ensuring solutions are scalable secure interoperable compliant resilient AI-ready and aligned to both sector-specific needs and broader enterprise technology standards.
The role will lead a distributed team of 20 architects and is accountable for advancing modern architecture ways of working including the adoption of GenAI to accelerate blueprint creation architectural analysis pattern discovery design documentation standards compliance and architecture decision support.

Define and evolve the Innovative Medicine architecture strategy across R&D Supply Chain Commercial Data AI Cloud Security and Enterprise Platforms.
Develop future-state architecture blueprints and principles that enable business agility interoperability scalability security and regulatory compliance.
Drive technology modernization platform simplification and technical debt reduction across the sector.
Align architecture investments with business priorities enterprise strategy and measurable outcomes.
Lead and develop a global architecture organization of 20 architects fostering a high-performing and collaborative culture.
Architecture Across the Innovative Medicine Value Chain
Provide architecture leadership across R&D Supply Chain and Commercial capabilities to enable an integrated end-to-end operating model.
Establish common data process and platform patterns that improve interoperability reuse and user experience.
Ensure architectures support global scale lifecycle management compliance cybersecurity and business continuity requirements.
Reference Architectures and Standards
Establish and govern reference architectures design patterns technology standards and security guardrails.
Promote adoption of reusable enterprise capabilities and shared platforms to reduce complexity and duplication.
Evaluate emerging technologies and industry trends to inform enterprise architecture direction and standards.
Technology Roadmaps and Platform Alignment
Ensure alignment across business strategies product roadmaps platform roadmaps and enterprise technology priorities.
Guide technology investment decisions including build buy reuse modernization and platform consolidation strategies.
Partner with product engineering data security and business leaders to prioritize strategic technology capabilities.
Enterprise Collaboration and Architecture Leadership
Partner with Technology Services Enterprise Architecture ISRM and sector architecture leaders to advance common enterprise architecture principles standards and reusable platforms.
Represent Innovative Medicine architecture priorities in enterprise governance and cross-sector decision-making forums.
Drive consistency in architecture practices governance processes and technology lifecycle management across the sector.
Governance and Design Oversight
Lead architecture governance forums and establish clear decision rights review standards and issue resolution mechanisms.
Provide architecture oversight for pivotal initiatives platform investments technology partnerships data products and AI-enabled capabilities.
Ensure solutions align with enterprise standards security requirements business objectives and target architectures.
Define and monitor architecture benchmarks to measure adoption reuse simplification technical health and value realization.
GenAI-Enabled Architecture Practices
Advance the use of GenAI to improve architecture productivity including blueprint creation design analysis standards compliance knowledge management and decision support.
Establish governance and guardrails for responsible use of AI-assisted architecture practices.
Develop reusable architecture knowledge assets automation patterns and AI-enabled ways of working that improve speed quality and consistency.
Innovation and Thought Leadership
Advise senior leaders on emerging technologies and their impact on the Innovative Medicine strategy.
Promote engineering excellence simplification innovation and architecture rigor across the technology organization.
Represent Innovative Medicine architecture in enterprise forums industry engagements and strategic technology partnerships.
Masters degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science Information Technology Engineering or a related field.
15 years of technology leadership experience including strong responsibility for enterprise sector or platform architecture.
Experience leading global architecture teams across multiple domains regions or business functions.
Experience applying GenAI or AI-assisted methods to architecture blueprinting design documentation standards governance platform evaluation or engineering productivity is preferred.
Experience in life sciences healthcare consumer health medtech supply chain commercial or another regulated global environment is preferred.
Expertise in cloud architecture data platforms AI/GenAI technologies integration architecture cybersecurity digital platforms and enterprise application landscapes.
Critical thinking systems thinking problem-solving decision-making and architecture governance capabilities.
Executive communication skills with the ability to translate complex technology decisions into clear business implications.
Experience leading architecture governance cross-sector collaboration technology standards adoption and large-scale modernization initiatives.
Familiarity with architecture frameworks such as TOGAF and modern product-centric delivery models is preferred.
Experience leading architecture teams across large global regulated enterprises with broad business and technology scope.
Understanding of pharmaceutical or healthcare value chains including R&D Supply Chain Commercial Quality Regulatory Data Digital and customer-facing capabilities.
Experience defining enterprise architecture strategies target-state blueprints reference architectures standards governance models and multi-year technology roadmaps.
Experience working with enterprise technology services cybersecurity infrastructure data engineering product and architecture teams to deliver reusable enterprise platforms.
Understanding of cloud platforms data architecture AI/ML platforms systems integration cybersecurity digital channels enterprise applications and modern software engineering practices.
Ability to influence senior leaders product leaders platform owners architects engineers and external partners across complex organizations.
Ability to balance enterprise standardization with sector-specific business needs regulatory requirements and differentiated innovation opportunities.
Experience building architecture communities of practice developing architecture talent and driving adoption through influence.

$178000.00 - $307050.00Additional Description for Pay Transparency:
