Job Summary

Staff Chaplain - Per Diem Rotating - Mass General Hospital Spiritual Care Services

Availability for Weekend Shifts Required

Responsible for providing spiritual care to patients families visitors and staff. Patients are seen at the bedside or in outpatient settings as assigned. Involved in all aspects of care including but not limited to team meetings family meetings and goal discussions. Staff support is provided through 1:1 encounters and group gatherings in the units and other locations as needed. Also charged with developing and leading hospital-wide and community faith-specific and interfaith services. Work as team members in accordance with the departments mission and vision statements.

Essential Functions:

- Counsel individuals or groups concerning their spiritual emotional or personal needs.
- Share information about religious issues by writing articles giving speeches or teaching.
- Respond to requests for assistance during emergencies or crises.
- Visit people in homes hospitals or prisons to provide them with comfort and support.
- Administer religious rites or ordinances.


Qualifications

Education
Bachelors Degree Related Field of Study required and Graduate Diploma Related Field of Study preferred

Licenses and Credentials

  • Two or more units of Clinical Pastoral Education from an accredited training program ACPE preferred.

  • Preference for candidates who are board certified chaplains with APC NAJC or NACC.


Experience

  • Experience in a hospital/healthcare setting or relevant spiritual ministry pastoral congregational or other experience 2-3 years required.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of various religious practices health care ethics behavioral health trauma informed care crisis response and grief and bereavement counseling techniques with patients and families

  • Ability to work independently and excellent organizational skills

  • Proficient at documenting encounters in a patients electronic medical records and using Microsoft Suite Programming

  • Proficient at multitasking and have a high level of problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent listening and verbal communication skills.
