Our client is a well-established privately held professional services organization serving major law firms and corporate clients nationwide. The company is seeking an experienced Controller / CFO to lead its financial operations and serve as a key business partner to the CEO and ownership team.
This is a highly visible hands-on leadership role with responsibility for accounting financial reporting P&L management budgeting forecasting cash flow internal controls and financial strategy.
- Own the companys financial operations including accounting financial reporting budgeting forecasting and P&L management.
- Lead and oversee the month-end close and ensure accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Manage cash flow banking relationships credit platforms expense reporting and working capital.
- Develop financial models KPIs and reporting to support executive decision-making.
- Monitor revenue margins profitability expenses and overall financial performance.
- Oversee billing and collection of client-reimbursable/pass-through expenses.
- Serve as a senior financial point of contact for clients including resolving billing and invoice questions.
- Partner with the CEO on pricing commercial decisions growth opportunities and financial strategy.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls financial processes and governance.
- Oversee tax regulatory banking and other external financial relationships.
- Lead develop and hold accountable a three-person accounting team.
- Improve financial systems and processes while maintaining a practical hands-on approach.
- 10 years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience.
- Previous CFO VP Finance Controller or Controller-to-CFO experience.
- Demonstrated P&L ownership including budgeting forecasting and margin management.
- Strong experience with cash flow management banking financial reporting and internal controls.
- Hands-on experience in a lean accounting/finance environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work directly with executives ownership clients and outside advisors.
- High level of discretion and integrity when handling confidential financial and business information.
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field.
- CPA and/or MBA preferred but not required.
- Professional services legal services or another project-based business.
- Experience with pass-through reimbursable or project-based billing.
- Experience working in a closely held or founder-led organization.
- Exposure to M&A diligence or corporate development activities.
- Demonstrated stability and longevity in previous finance leadership roles.
The ideal candidate is a low-ego hands-on financial leader who is equally comfortable working through accounting details and advising the CEO on broader business decisions.
This individual should be comfortable picking up the phone to resolve a client billing question participating in the monthly close analyzing financial results and presenting recommendations to ownership. Strong judgment discretion communication and a high level of personal accountability will be critical to success.
