The Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is responsible for overseeing industrial hygiene programs to anticipate recognize evaluate and control occupational health hazards. This role provides technical expertise to ensure contractor activities comply with applicable industrial hygiene standards regulatory requirements and contractual obligations with a focus on protecting worker health and maintaining a safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and verify that contractor work activities comply with applicable industrial hygiene regulations standards and contract requirements (e.g. exposure limits monitoring requirements respiratory protection hazard communication).
Conduct on-site industrial hygiene assessments and inspections including observation of work practices controls and use of personal protective equipment.
Review and evaluate industrial hygiene records and documentation (e.g. sampling data equipment calibration records ventilation and control system performance medical surveillance interfaces) for accuracy completeness and compliance.
Identify industrial hygiene hazards and nonconformances; recommend and help implement engineering administrative and PPE controls to reduce exposures and improve worker protection.
Coordinate and collaborate with contractors safety and health staff and other internal stakeholders to develop and maintain industrial hygiene procedures work plans and corrective actions.
Support incident/near-miss evaluations from an industrial hygiene perspective and participate in root-cause and corrective action development as needed.
Work Schedule:
Standard schedule is Monday through Thursday 10 hours per day.
May require additional hours alternate shifts or schedule adjustments to align with contractor work activities and monitoring needs (e.g. night work high-exposure tasks or special projects).

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion LLC (FMP) a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation.
