Job Summary

Overview:
Under the direct supervision of the Program Manager the Ceramics Instructor is responsible for instructing leading and supervising participants in creating clay projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Implement activities and provide supervision and instruction of ceramics participants during classes.
- Guide students through challenges as they create their piece.
- Dry load and fire student artwork.
- Educate participants on the firing process.
- Maintain an organized and generally clean studio.
- Communicate effectively with participants guardians and staff regarding rule infractions questions or concerns.
- Demonstrate and support District customer service standards.
- Maintain District equipment and facilities in a clean and orderly manner.
Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Distribute written communication as necessary or requested.
- Record and communicate any difficult situations or behaviors to the Program Manager
- Notify the Program Manager when supplies need to be ordered or restocked.
- Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of hand building techniques including slab coil and pinch pot construction and using mold forms and the slab roller.
- Knowledge of surface treatment techniques including slips stains and glazes.
- Knowledge of porcelain stoneware and low fire clay bodies.
- Knowledge of drying loading and firing artwork. Knowledge of firing practices including how to ramp a firing.
- Ability to address complaints or resolve concerns.
- Ability to work independently in day-to-day operations with general direction from supervisor.
Education and Experience:
- For childrens classes: Minimumone (1) year experience working with children or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have experience creating clay artwork or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Possession of or ability to obtain First Aid CPR and AED certification within two (2) months of hire.
Special Considerations:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Subject to modified/flexible work schedules.
- Ability to lift carry and/or move objects weighing 30 lbs on a weekly basis. Lifting assistance is required when lifting > 30 lbs.
- Regular onsite attendance is an essential function of this position.
Hiring Rate: $16.50/hr - $20.50/hr
