Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for afull-time Fiscal TechnicianCDL/Diesel Lab Technicianat the Walla Walla campus.

General Responsibilities:
The Instructional Tech for Diesel Technology & CDL will assist instructors with daily tasks involved in the classroom and automotive lab setting. This includes instructing and monitoring safety procedures involved in the various processes and operation of shop addition the Instructional Tech will help with lab housekeeping setup and hands on demonstrations to assure program students have the tools and help available to safely and successfully meet each days instructional goal. Students learn to diagnose and repair vehicles in a shop or classroom environment so continuous lab configuration updates equipment maintenance and safety compliance is necessary to ensure efficient instruction.

Essential Functions:
Lab Assistant

  • Assisting students achieve success in the Lab setting while ensuring appropriate and safe operations of training equipment.
Lab Assistant Duties Specific to CDL:
Assist students with
  • Pre-trip inspection
  • Strait back off set back and 90 degree backing
  • Proper gear usage and recover/shifting procedures
  • Coupling & uncoupling
  • Starting/stopping
  • Procedures for turning
  • Procedures for entering intersections
  • Railroad crossing procedures
  • Demonstrate road test procedures
Lab Preventative Maintenance
  • Inspecting and Maintaining lab training equipment to ensure operability and safe conditions for students
Lab Development
  • Assembling and/or moving educational trainers assisting in upgrades and ensuring enough trainers are available and operable for lab students in addition to duties as assigned.
Lab Prep
  • Preparing the educational lab environment prior to lab operations including housekeeping consumable accountability and duties as assigned.

level of acceptance cooperation and mutual respect.

Required Qualifications:
Any combination of education experience and/or training that provides the applicant with the knowledge and skills to perform the job may be considered by the college.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of Diesel Technology
  • Knowledge of safety rules in an automotive lab
  • Possession of a Class A commercial drivers license with no restrictions for at least two (2) years

Preferred/Desired Qualifications:
  • Graduate of Automotive or CDL program or similar program
  • Experience working in a shop environment
  • Bilingual English/Spanish

Conditions/Terms of Employment

This classified position is in a bargaining unit for which WPEA Higher Ed is the exclusive representative.

This position typically works 40 hours per week Monday-Friday. This position is located in a classroom automotive lab setting outdoor truck driving lab and inside trucks. Position involves performing tasks while under vehicles and the use of tools of the trade. Must be able to perform tasks that require physical ability including lifting climbing bending stretching twisting crawling and moving lifting carrying pushing and pulling items weighing up to 50 pounds with or without the use of hand truck or dolly. Must be able to operate tools machinery equipment and other tools of the trade.

Conditions of employment include testing for controlled substances and ability to obtain a first aid/CPR/bloodborne pathogens certification within the first year.

The college has an excellent benefit program including medical dental life and long-term disability insurance; paid sick leave; paid vacation leave; and retirement plan. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP) unless declined at time of hire.
