North Country drivers: dedicated paper mill freight Monday to Friday and your weekends at home.

Money and miles

• $1300 average weekly gross
• $0.69 per mile
• $150 a day on call pay if no load is ready
• $50 backhaul pay when available
• $15 stop pay $35 on short runs
• $850 a week while you train
• About 1800 miles a week

On the road

Loads pick up at a paper mill in Glens Falls. About 70% deliver to New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Mix of live unloads and preloaded trailers. Day shift and you are off on the 6 company winter you may need to chain up and you will be shown how.

What new drivers ask most

• Will I really be home every weekend Yes. You run Monday to Friday. Weekend work is voluntary.
• What if there is no load for me You are paid $150 for that day.
• My backing is rough. That is normal. You practice for weeks with a mentor beside you first.

New CDL Here is what happens

• You apply a recruiter calls and reviews your license and record with you.
• Orientation up to 2 days. Hotel provided bus ticket reimbursed $300 once hired.
• 4 to 6 weeks with a mentor paid while you learn.
• Then you go solo in your own assigned truck.

You will need

• Class A CDL 21 or older
• 120 hours from a CDL school or 6 months of recent experience
• Up to 2 moving violations in the last 2 years no DUI/DWI in the last 10
• DOT physical and a hair and urine drug test
