Casual Hire appointments may last for up to 89 days for full-time employees and up to 1 calendar year for part-time employees. Title: (CASUAL) Program Support Specialist Hiring Unit: Student Affairs/Student Care & Conduct Position: *** Casual Hire *** Location: UH Hilo Date Posted: July 31 2026 Closing Date: August 7 2026 Salary: $26.69/hour Full time/Part time: Full-time no more than 40 hours/week Temporary/Permanent: Temporary Other Conditions: Casual Hire temporary appointment is expected to begin August 2026 or soon thereafter. Not to exceed 89 days for full-time employees. Duties: Under the Director of Student Care & Conduct provide administrative and operational support for the Basic Needs Program. Maintain accurate electronic and physical filing systems administrative calendars program forms files and standard reports using tracking tools. Collect verify and enter program data spreadsheets and tracking systems. Maintain operational checklists logs and resource materials for program activities. Assist and process student hiring employee/onboarding forms timesheet submission tracking work schedules and related documentation. Assist and serve on campus or system-wide committees including tabling material preparation event setup and distribution of program materials. Monitor supplies and inventory for Basic Needs initiatives as assigned by the Director. Track account balances and support routine budgeting activities by compiling reports spreadsheets and statistical summaries. Prepare purchasing reimbursement and related fiscal forms for review and approval. Manage motor-pool documentation scheduling and safety compliance requirements for approved student drivers. Schedule student shuttle requests using approval transportation resources and logs. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelors degree in Business Administration Public Administration Education Social Sciences Human Services Communications or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated. One (1) year of experience in administrative support office operations customer service or program support work. Ability to follow detailed instructions and established procedures. Ability to maintain accurate records and perform routine data entry and reporting tasks. Ability to organize work and manage multiple assigned tasks. Effective written and oral communication skills. Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Google Workspace Spreadsheets and database systems.
Desirable Qualifications: Experience in higher education nonprofit or public service settings. Experience with budgeting purchasing or financial recordkeeping. Experience collecting data maintaining databases and preparing reports. Experience supporting student employment processes or office operations. Familiarity with University of Hawaii systems policies and procedures.
