Position Description
Position Overview:
The Case Assignment Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between the courts and the Public Defenders Office for case assignments. This position is responsible for ensuring the timely accurate and equitable assignmentof misdemeanor and felony cases in accordance with attorney experience skill level caseload capacity and office policies.This role requires exceptional organization efficiency professionalism and communication skills. The ideal candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment manage competing priorities maintain detailed records andbuild effective working relationships with attorneys internal leadership judges and court staff. Remote work required on one weekend day each week to address assignment needs and ensure continuity of operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Serve as the primary point of contact between the courts and the Public Defenders Office regarding case assignments.
- Communicate with felony and misdemeanor Assistant Chiefs regarding scheduling conflicts and circumstances particular to their Team in relation to case assignments.
- Assign felony and misdemeanor cases to attorneys based on caseload distribution attorney qualifications experience level and office policies.
- Monitor and maintain accurate caseload tracking systems to ensure equitable distribution of cases and compliance with office standards and expectations.
- Maintain a strong working knowledge of court assignment procedures workflows and operational practices related to felony and misdemeanor dockets.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with attorneys internal leadership judges and court coordinators court staff attorneys and office leadership regarding assignment matters.
- Identify and proactively address assignment issues scheduling conflicts workload imbalances or operational inefficiencies in collaboration with felony and misdemeanor Assistant Chiefs and internal leadership.
- Ensure timely processing of assignments and responsiveness to court requests in a high-volume environment.
- Provide weekend remote coverage as needed to facilitate case assignment operations and urgent court matters.
- Additional duties may be assigned to meet operational needs.

Education:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution.
- Strong understanding of Harris County felony and misdemeanor case workflows and court processes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage high-volume assignments with accuracy and efficiency.
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with attorneys internal leadership and court personnel.
- Proficiency with case management systems Microsoft Office spreadsheets and database tracking.Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically under pressure.
- Collaborative and service-oriented mindset.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing court needs and operational demands.

- Associates or bachelors degree preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of prior experience in a legal court criminal justice or public defense environment strongly preferred.

- Based on 26 Pay Periods
Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
