What Does a DSP Do

As a Direct Support Professional youll help adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities live fulfilling independent lives in a comfortable home-like environment.

Every day is a little different! You might spend your shift cooking dinner together helping someone get ready for their day enjoying a favorite activity or celebrating a personal accomplishment.

Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:

• Supporting Daily Living: Assist with everyday activities such as preparing meals household tasks personal care and medication administration.
• Encouraging Independence: Help individuals build confidence develop skills and make choices about their daily lives.
• Creating Connections: Build positive trusting relationships with the people you support.
• Enjoying Activities Together: Support individuals with hobbies shopping community outings appointments and recreational activities.
• Providing a Safe Comfortable Home: Help maintain a welcoming respectful and supportive living environment.
• Working as a Team: Collaborate with coworkers and supervisors to provide consistent person-centered support.
• Celebrating Success: Recognize the everyday accomplishments that make a big difference in someones life.

Qualifications :

Basic Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.

• Must have a sincere desire to support individuals with disabilities.

• Must be able to communicate effectively and work as part of a team.

• Must be willing to complete required training.

• Must meet applicable driving requirements including a valid drivers license and acceptable driving record driving is required for the position.

• Must be comfortable using basic technology to complete required documentation.
