POSITION INFORMATION

Position Name: Campus Operations & Safety Specialist (Part-Time)

Classification: Non-Exempt Part-Time Non-Benefitted

FTE: 0.48 FTE / Part-Time (18 hours per week)

Work Hours: 18 hours per week. Schedule is flexible based on campus needs with emphasis on evenings Saturdays Sundays special events and identified staffing gaps (including scheduled leaves). Occasional overtime as needed.

SUMMARY

The Campus Operations & Safety Specialist provides flexible cross-trained coverage across the Operations teams safety front desk and event-support functions. This position is designed to fill in across the duties of the Campus Operations & Safety Coordinator the Campus Safety Specialist and the Campus Operations & Safety Specialist I roles with particular emphasis on evening weekend and event coverage.


This person will patrol campus grounds and buildings respond to safety and security concerns and support campus events through setup monitoring and breakdown. The role also provides front desk coverage greeting and directing visitors answering phones and supporting parking badge and mail operations and documents incidents and concerns for Operations leadership.


Scheduling is adjusted based on the campus event calendar coverage needs during staff leaves and absences and other operational priorities identified by the Campus Operations & Safety Manager.




RESPONSIBILITIES

Patrol Safety & Emergency Response 35%

Regularly patrol campus grounds buildings and facilities on foot or vehicle to ensure safety and security.

Act as a first responder to campus emergencies including medical and security incidents; coordinate with local police fire and other emergency responders as appropriate.

Enforce campus policies and procedures related to safety and security; issue warnings and report violations to the appropriate authority.

Check doors and locks for proper operation; secure and lock buildings and windows as directed.

Investigate and report unusual suspicious or dangerous circumstances; complete incident reports and maintain logs notifying Campus Operations and Safety leadership as appropriate.

Identify and report malfunctioning locks and other safety hazards in a timely manner.

Assist with emergency drills and support implementation of emergency action plans including evacuation procedures.



Event Support 20%

Support campus events held during evenings and weekends including setup (tables chairs equipment signage) and breakdown/restoring rooms afterward.

Provide a visible safety presence and front desk/monitoring coverage for the duration of assigned events.

Assist event organizers and campus departments with operational needs during events.




Front Desk & Visitor Services 20%

Receive visitors at the front desk by greeting welcoming directing and announcing appropriately.

Answer screen and forward incoming phone calls.

Provide excellent customer service to students faculty staff and visitors.



Administrative & Operational Support 20%

Support the parking program including assigning permits/badges processing tickets and distributing parking stickers and permits.

Assist in processing and distributing mail for campus departments including accepting sorting and tracking incoming and outgoing mail and packages.

Create requisitions receipts and supplier invoices for vendors and contractors as needed.

Assist the Operations team with reports communications and other administrative tasks.



Other Duties as Assigned 5%

Perform other duties included in the Campus Operations & Safety Coordinator Campus Safety Specialist or Campus Operations & Safety Specialist I position descriptions as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

Education & Training

  • High school diploma/G.E.D. or equivalent work experience.

Experience

  • 1 years working in campus safety security customer service or an office environment and/or equivalent training.

Related Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to problem-solve and work with multiple interruptions.
  • Ability to collaborate with others and provide excellent customer service.
  • Able to lift 50 lbs. stand for prolonged periods and walk/patrol at a brisk pace.

Other Qualifications

  • Proficient in Office 365 Teams and other software-based programs.
  • Availability to work evenings weekends and events as scheduled.

Preferred

Education & Training

  • 24 college credits in a field related to campus safety.

Certifications & Licenses

  • CPR & AED certification.

Experience

  • 3 years operational experience at a university/college campus.

Related Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Emergency/crisis response planning and/or drill experience.
  • Experience with video surveillance software (Milestone) or access control software (Lenel).
  • Data analysis experience.
