Building Inspector

Warren County is seeking aBuilding Inspectorto perform technical inspections of residential commercial industrial and public construction projects. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with applicable building plumbing mechanical zoning and related codes and regulations.

Key responsibilities include conducting field inspections and re-inspections of residential commercial industrial and public facilities. Inspect building plans specifications and permits for code compliance. Approve or deny building permits as appropriate check zoning setbacks and perform erosion and sediment control inspections. Identify code violations unsafe conditions poor workmanship and improper materials. Issue warnings and stop-work orders when necessary. Answer questions and provide guidance to property owners contractors builders and the public regarding code requirements. Confer with contractors and property owners regarding code compliance prepare inspection reports and maintain accurate records and files. Testify in court regarding code violation cases when required. Attend training to remain current on inspection practices codes and regulations.

A successful candidate will have knowledge of building construction materials methods and practices. Knowledge of applicable state building codes laws and local ordinances. Ability to identify construction defects poor workmanship inferior materials and potential safety hazards. Ability to read and interpret building plans specifications with construction in progress. Strong Communication and customer service skills when working with contractors property owners and the public. The ability to enforce building codes with professionalism firmness and tact and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers contractors and the public.

High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by coursework in inspection specialties and considerable experience in building construction trade. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

The hiring range is $51794.43- $61567.31 depending on qualifications and experience and includes an excellent benefits package.
