A growing engineering office in Herndon VA is seeking an experienced Bridge Project Manager (Structural / Transportation) to lead bridge and transportation structure projects across Virginia and the Mid-Atlantic region. This role is ideal for a senior bridge engineer ready to step into a client-facing leadership position with increased responsibility for project delivery team coordination and client management.
You will oversee a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from $5M$10M assignments to large complex transportation infrastructure programs including Design-Bid-Build Design-Build and P3 delivery methods.
This position combines technical bridge expertise with project management leadership including client engagement schedule/budget control and multidisciplinary team coordination.
Key Responsibilities
Lead bridge and structural engineering projects from planning through delivery in alignment with scope schedule and budget
Serve as primary client contact managing relationships expectations and communications
Oversee technical teams and provide senior-level design review and decision-making (not daily production work)
Develop and maintain project management plans QA/QC processes staffing plans and project schedules
Monitor project financials risks and performance metrics; implement corrective actions as needed
Coordinate subconsultants and multidisciplinary engineering teams
Prepare progress reports client presentations and invoice documentation
Participate in internal project reviews financial tracking and leadership meetings
Support business development through proposals client interviews and relationship building
Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineering staff
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering (Structural focus) from an ABET-accredited program
10 years of bridge and structural engineering design experience
Professional Engineer (PE) license (Virginia PE preferred; other states considered if eligible for VA licensure within a reasonable timeframe)
Demonstrated experience or clear progression into project management responsibilities
Strong client-facing communication skills (written and verbal)
Experience reviewing and guiding bridge/structural design deliverables
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with VDOT and Virginia/local transportation agencies
Background in transportation infrastructure consulting (bridges highways structures)
Experience with Design-Bid-Build Design-Build and/or P3 delivery models
Prior leadership of multidisciplinary engineering teams
Experience with large-scale or complex transportation infrastructure projects
Exposure to proposal development and client pursuit support
