- Governmental regulations and codes relating to the operation and maintenance of movable bridges and pumping plants.
- Methods tools and equipment used in the skilled trades necessary for the maintenance and repair of drawbridges engines electrical and mechanical systems buildings structures gear drives and pumps.
- Building construction trades such as masonry plumbing structural iron work carpentry painting and welding.
- Drawbridge operations including safety practices; regulations governing operations of movable bridges over navigable waters in the State of California.
- Pump Station and ground water pumping principles.
- The F.C.C. Radio Operators Guide.
- Principles and practices of supervision and leadership.
- Principles of municipal budget preparation and administration.
- Correct English usage including grammar spelling business letter writing and formatting.
- Computer applications operations software and hardware of various types including MS Office products accounting/budgeting software maintenance management systems GIS/GPS systems SCADA systems mobile devices tablets etc.
- Contract and purchase order development and administration accounting and record-keeping practices report writing etc.
- Make sound decisions quickly and during pressured situations.
- Plan coordinate and direct the work of a small to moderately sized group of Maintenance and Operations workers in the performance of bridge and pump station maintenance and operations.
- Analyze data and reports and provide recommendations options and/or conclusions.
- Set standards of performance in order to control and optimize the productivity of staff.
- Estimate the staffing equipment and materials required in the category of work assigned.
- Keep detailed organized records and special files as necessary.
- Read and interpret complex plans blueprints specifications government regulations and contract documents.
- Demonstrate proficiency in utilizing computer applications and software at an intermediate level or higher for MS Office and other business-related applications.
- Train subordinates in all phases of work and safety.
- Keep abreast of changing technology work methods and materials and utilize new technologies to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
- Communicate in a clear and concise manner in written and verbal format and demonstrate effective reading comprehension.
- Perform operations of draw bridges and pump stations with safety and skill.
- Create develop and administer contracts work plans budgets etc. and monitor expenditures.
THE EXAMINATION WILLCONSIST OF THE FOLLOWING STEPS:
- A review of applicants application and Class CDMV driver license history reportto verify possession of minimum requirements. Those candidates who possess the minimum requirements for the class will move on to the next step in the examination process.
- An oral examination which will be weighted as 100% of the candidates final examination score. The oral examination may be administered virtually and may contain situational exercises.
Candidates mustattain a qualifying rating on each portion of this recruitment.
