POSITION: BODY REPAIRS & PAINTING TRAINEE
SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Body Repairs & Painting Trainee shall perform work typical of that performed by a Body Repairs & Painting Technician for assessing and repairing all body repairs on any MTA vehicle within the fleet. The duties will include working with highly skilled experienced Body Repairs & Painting Technicians as appropriate who will provide instruction and critique of the trainee work. If the trainee successfully completes the training objectives at the end of the two-year training period they will have the opportunity to become a Class B Body Repairs & Painting Technician.
SUPERVISED BY: MANAGER OF MAINTENANCE
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Train to perform body repairs on any Authority vehicles
- Train to perform complete body repairs of any damaged Authority vehicles including but not limited to removing and replacing panels and body parts; cutting & welding; preparing surfaces for painting; bump work; frame work; paint vehicles; repair and/or replace damaged windows and seals
- Train to perform electrical repairs as required to return vehicle to proper operating status
- Train to perform mechanical repairs as required to return vehicle to proper operating status
- Read and understand maintenance manuals part books and wiring diagrams
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:

- Aptitude to learn the following:
- The ability to assess and repair body repairs on any Authority vehicle
- Knowledge of welding practices and techniques
- Skill in reading and interpreting technical information
- Skill in making mechanical adjustments and repairs
- Working knowledge of surface preparations for painting applications
- The ability to operate power equipment with accuracy
- The ability to pass background checks for license criminal and references
- The ability to pass a Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and drug screen
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- High School diploma
- A valid Michigan drivers license and the ability to obtain a Group A or B Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with a Passenger endorsement.

- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to sit frequently required to walk and stand.
- Use of hands and arms is necessary to reach or use various tools controls or objects.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- May also include frequent bending stooping squatting pushing and pulling kneeling crouching crawling reaching use of ladders (included wall mounted) stepping in and out of vehicles twisting turning and entry into awkward positions while looking at work being performed by maintenance workers.
- Lifting of up to 75 pounds from the floor to a waist height level. Employees are required to perform job duties in accordance with existing health and safety procedures and policies.

The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. And may require the usage of respirator.
WAGE:
80% of current contractual wage of Class B Body and Paint Specialist classification per hour plus all eligible benefits.
