TITLE: Board Certified Behavior Specialist (BCBA) -Secondary

POSITION SUMMARY:

Enhance the quality of educational accessibility within the school and home setting to meet the needs of children with behavior and social challenges using research-based approaches and best practices.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. District Behavioral Consultantfor Grade 4 - 12.
  2. Consult with team members on the development of Individualized Education Programs goals and objectives implementation of Behavioral Intervention Plans and placement recommendations.
  3. Assess progress and effectiveness of Behavioral Intervention Plans and curriculum modifications. Creates data collection tools works with staff to analyze data.
  4. Conduct in-district and out-of-district Functional Behavioral Assessments and behavioral observations and develop appropriate Behavioral Intervention Plans as needed.
  5. Consult with teachers in meeting the behavioral needs of students in both the general and special education settings and assist in the development of class-wide incentive plans and reinforcement systems.
  6. Assist with the implementation of the alternative curriculum (discrete trials) within the sub separate classrooms as needed.
  7. Provide supervision of Paraeducator in consultation with the teacher and building principal including during Extended School Year
  8. Coordinate and facilitate Paraeducator training and provide staff with resources tools and in-class modeling of techniques.
  9. Participate in training to obtain credentials to become a Safety Care trainer (de-escalation restraint and behavior support program) and plans conduct and tracks staff training in Safety Care
  10. Respond to behavioral crises as need arises.
  11. Provide consultation and recommendations to parents regarding behavior and social issues.
  12. Assist coordination of transitions fromElementaryschool and community agencies and students transitioning between school settings
  13. Experience with or knowledge of principles of Applied Behavioral Analysis
  14. Assist Principals in the interviewing and hiring of Paraeducators if requested.
  15. Participate in relevant professional groups and organizations.
  16. Assume such responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services or designee.
  17. Adheres to the adopted policy of the Bellingham School Committee

SKILLS/ABILITY:

  1. Board-Certified Behavior Analyst (through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board) required.
  2. Licensed Applied Behavior Analyst Massachusetts Board of Allied Mental Health and Human Services.
  3. Experience as an educational and behavioral consultant.
  4. Experience as a consultant in the area of inclusion of students with Developmental Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder.
  5. Knowledge and familiarity with state and district curriculum standards.

CERTIFICATES LICENSES and/or DEGREE REQUIREMENTS:

  1. MA DESE Licensure optional.
  2. A masters degree from an accredited college or university.
  3. At least five years of successful classroom teaching experience.

CLASSIFICATION: Singleton - (200 days)

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time.
  2. This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
  3. This job required travel to/from all school buildings on an as needed basis.

SALARY RANGE: $75000 - 80000
