SALARY/RATE: Support Specialist Salary Scale

REPORTS TO: Building Principal

GENERAL SUMMARY

The Behavioral Interventionist is responsible for supporting students with behavioral challenges. The Interventionist provides individual or small group instruction to students who are struggling academically and/or behaviorally. This position provides classroom and school-wide behavior management strategies

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provides high quality instruction to individual students and small groups.
• Administers one on one intensive behavior intervention to students as determined by the BCB and Administration.
• Provides assistance with de-escalating student behaviors and reintegrating students back into the classroom.
• Promote highly specialized positive behavior interventions in which at risk students thrive: behavior instruction that is explicit intensive accelerated and provides ample practice.
• Use ongoing assessments to maintain a record of student progress.
• Develop assessment strategies consistent with instructional goals teaching methods and individual student needs to more accurately assess student behavior skills and understanding.
• Maintains data-based documentation of continuous monitoring of student performance and progress.
• Communicates with teachers administrators and families regarding student progress.
• Assists with identifying students for placement in intervention groups. Engage parents in the student behavior intervention plan process and encourage parents to support the positive behavior development of their child.
• Conduct conflict resolution and peer mediation sessions.
• Promote and maintain a safe and healthful environment in the classroom and building.

Education South Carolina Educator Certificate in an applicable area of emphasis.

Skills/Abilities Demonstrate outstanding verbal and written communication skills. Expert knowledge of function-based intervention planning for developing behavior change strategies that focuses on reducing problem behavior and increasing more appropriate behavior. Exceptional knowledge in the use of assessments and assessment data to provide instruction and prescribe individual work plans for individual students. Knowledge of and the ability to implement de-escalation techniques. Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with school administrators staff students and families.

Working Conditions Classroom environment with limited exposure to outside conditions. Activities require movement/lifting items weighing up to 50 pounds.
