Job Summary

Beam Cut Operator (2nd Shift) - Steel America

Purpose:

Steel America a business unit of Colonnas Shipyard is seeking an experienced Beam Cut Operator to support operations on 2nd Shift (3pm-11:30pm) in the Fabrication Shop at our site in Norfolk VA.

The Beam Cut Operator will use a CNC automatic beam cutting machine to make precision cuts on various metal structural profiles.

Job Description:

Operates a CNC automatic beam cutting machine to make precision cuts on various metal structural profiles.
Prepares sets up and adjusts Beam Cut machine as required by product plans and production schedules.
Ensures that there are sufficient raw materials available.
Measures and aligns materials to be used.
Inspects products evaluating finished pieces for compliance with quality standards and specifications.
Performs routine maintenance on the Beam Cut machine.
Maintains a clean work area.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Must have a HS diploma (or equivalent) and at least two (2) years of experience operating a CNC automatic beam cutting machine in a steel service center or fabrication environment.
Must be able to read interpret and follow product plans blueprints and/or drawings.
Must demonstrate basic levels of mathematical reading writing and communication skills necessary to successfully accomplish the job requirements as outlined above.
Must be able to work all shifts overtime and weekends.
Must be a steady reliable worker.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience operating plasma burn tables and/or press brakes preferred.
CNC Programming experience preferred.

Travel Requirements:

Minimal Travel; 10% or less.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to lift carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job but no less than 20 lbs.
Able to work on and climb ladders work in extreme temperature environments aboard ships in shipyards under industrial conditions and in confined spaces including enter and moving through manholes.
Able to perform other duties as required which may involve high heat humidity noise and dirty conditions.
Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.
Employee is required to operate trucks forklifts & man-lifts.
While performing the duties of this job you may frequently be required to stand walk & sit; use hands or fingers; handle or feel; talk and hear. Occasionally required to reach with hands and arms climb and balance stoop squat kneel twist and crawl.
Work in extreme temperatures and conditions. At times you will work in areas that have less adequate ventilation
Frequent use of respirator.

Pay Range: $25.37 - $32.08

Determination of base salary considers various factors including but not limited to scope of responsibility candidates relative and specific experience education level key skills as well as other business considerations.
