In this officer position you will lead and direct an underwriting team specializing in National Accounts Property (NAP) Structured Risk Segment. Your primary responsibilities include driving underwriting excellence ensuring profitability and fostering business development for a national portfolio. You will be accountable for achieving business results through effective management and strategic implementation of objectives and policies for NAP ground-up business aligning with the companys strategic plans for the for the NY (NYC Long Island) NJ New England territory.JOB DESCRIPTION:
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:
1. Implements strategic objectives underwriting strategies and best practices with substantial impact on the short-term success of a product line or segment.
2. Ensures the achievement of continued profitability growth and/or operational efficiencies for a product line or segment through assessment of risk tolerance market appetite and emerging risk issues.
3. Evaluates underwriting performance based on financial analysis. Includes rate reserve adequacy operational planning and product reviews. Provides results to members of the underwriting management team and develops plans to resolve issues.
4. Drives adherence to underwriting authority delegation audit criteria and catastrophe management for a product line or segment.
5. Collaborates with business partners in Risk Control Actuarial Claim Worldwide Operations and Compliance to address governance and compliance issues related to underwriting practices.
6. Provides guidance and direction in the development of underwriting and training tools.
7. May lead direct and have full management accountability for staff in area of responsibility with an emphasis on talent management and succession planning in accordance with strategic direction.
8. May take lead responsibility for the development of underwriting strategies and position papers for emerging issues when assigned.
9. May maintain relationships with branches brokers agents and customers to assess risk tolerance market appetite and emerging issues.
May perform additional duties as assigned.

Skills Knowledge & Abilities
1. In-depth technical knowledge of underwriting theories and practices within the insurance field.
2. Ability to effectively interact and communicate with all levels of external and/or internal business partners within scope of responsibility team and/or matrix environment.
3. Leadership and management skills demonstrating integrity and professionalism.
4. Ability to drive results by identifying and resolving problems within scope of responsibility.
5. Knowledge of the insurance industry its products and services.
6. Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and other business-related software.
Education & Experience
1. Bachelors degree with Masters preferred in a related discipline or equivalent.
2. Typically a minimum of 10 years of related work experience with five years management experience.
3. Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) roles.

In certain jurisdictions CNA is legally required to include a reasonable estimate of the compensation for this District of Columbia California Colorado Connecticut Illinois Maryland Massachusetts New York and Washington the national base pay range for this job level is $152000 to $242000 determinations are based on various factors including but not limited to relevant work experience skills certifications and location.
