We are seeking a professional tech-savvy CDL Class A Driver to join our autonomous trucking this role you arent just driving; you are overseeing the deployment of cutting-edge self-driving technology. You will be responsible for the safe operation of Class A commercial vehicles equipped with autonomous systems during long-haul missions.
This position requires 100% travel and a flexible mindset as operations run 24/7/365 to mirror real-world freight demands. You will rotate through day and night shifts ensuring our systems perform reliably in all lighting and traffic conditions.
Responsibilities:
System Supervision: Monitor autonomous driving systems (ADS) while the vehicle is in motion prepared to take manual control instantly if the system encounters a disengagement scenario.
Safety Operations: Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections ensuring both the mechanical integrity of the truck and the cleanliness/calibration of sensors (Lidar Radar Cameras).
Data Logging: Provide detailed verbal and written feedback to engineering teams regarding system behavior edge cases and comfort maneuvers.
Logistics Management: Manage routes fuel stops and inspections via Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) in strict Steiner compliance with DOT/FMCSA regulations.
Dynamic Scheduling: Operate on a sliding schedule that includes overnight hauls weekends and holidays to ensure continuous data collection.
Safety & Defensive Driving
Active Monitoring: Maintain continuous situational awareness acting as a redundant safety layer for the Autonomous Driving System (ADS) in complex environments like construction zones or heavy merging.
Proactive Intervention: Expertly identify edge cases (e.g. erratic behavior from other motorists debris or poor weather) and take manual control before the system reaches its operational limit.
Space Management: Ensure the vehicle maintains a safe cushion and follow-distance overriding the system if necessary to adhere to the 150-foot minimum rule for heavy-duty CMVs.
Shift Vigilance: Adhere to strict fatigue management protocols ensuring high alertness during night shifts when biological rhythms are naturally lower.
DOT Regulations & Compliance
Regulatory Compliance: Maintain full compliance with FMCSA Part 395 and state-specific AV regulations (including recent updates like Californias heavy-duty driverless testing permits).
Law Enforcement Interaction: Act as the primary point of contact for DOT roadside inspections and weigh station stops explaining the autonomous systems status to officials if requested.
Incident Reporting: Assist in the mandatory documentation and reporting of any disengagements or system anomalies as required by federal and state oversight bodies
Pre-Trip & Post-Trip Inspections
Mechanical Verification: Conduct standard Circle Checks of tires (tread/pressure) brakes (lines/drums) lighting (high/low beams signals) and coupling (fifth-wheel lock).
Sensor & Hardware Audit: Perform specialized inspections of the AV stackensuring Lidar Radar and Camera lenses are clean unobstructed and securely mounted.
Fluid & Leak Check: Use the CBD (Cracks Bends Dents) and ABC (Abrasions Bulges Cuts) methods to inspect engine hoses steering components and suspension.
In-Cab Systems: Test all onboard computer monitors emergency override buttons and two-way communication links to the remote operations center.
ELD & Logging Requirements
Digital Documentation: Utilize Electronic Logging Devices (ELD) to automatically and manually record Hours of Service (HOS) ensuring 100% accuracy in On-Duty vs. Driving status.
System Hand-Off Tracking: Log specific timestamps when control transitions from the Autonomous System to the Human Driver (and vice-versa) for engineering data audits.
RODS Management: Maintain Records of Duty Status (RODS) and ensure all supporting documentation (fuel receipts tolls) is submitted within the 13-day federal window.
Inspection Readiness: Ensure the ELD is capable of seamless data transfer (USB or Bluetooth) to law enforcement during any roadside safety audit.
Key Requirements:
Licensing: Valid Class A Commercial Drivers License (CDL-A) with a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
Experience: Minimum of 13 years of over-the-road (OTR) experience operating Class A tractor-trailers.
Tech Literacy: Ability to use tablets proprietary software and diagnostic tools. You should be comfortable troubleshooting basic software prompts.
Adaptability: Willingness to be away from home 100% of the time (typical rotations are 34 weeks out 1 week home).
Vigilance: Ability to maintain high levels of focus during long periods of autonomous operation where manual input is minimal.

Experience in safety-critical roles
Strong communication skills (you will be the eyes and ears for software engineers).
