Essential Functions: Under the direct supervision of the Chair of the Department of Music and as part of a collaborative team of performing arts and equipment technicians in several departments within the College of Arts and Letters the Audio Engineer and A/V Systems Technician will oversee the audio systems and equipment and their use in the performing arts venues and classrooms within the College. Includes comprehensive support services involving multiple disciplines in audio recording video and streaming both for live performances and in recording studio settings. Serves as staff audio lead for the performing arts facilities and venues providing support and infrastructure for academic production concerts and recitals as well as supporting the needs of faculty and guest artists/designers. The Audio Engineer and A/V Systems Technician works closely with the College Technical Director to support the operations and maintenance of the performing arts venues classrooms and related academic spaces. While continuing to report to the Chair of the Department of Music this position will have secondary reporting to the College Technical Director who serves as project manager for maintenance upgrade and repair of various College of Arts and Letters facilities in the arts and performing arts for facilities-related projects and their operational and maintenance needs; project workloads typically coincide with related assignments during winter and summer sessions and during academic breaks while facilities operational needs are ongoing. Maintains audio video streaming and recording-related shop stage and classroom equipment. Recommends the purchase of audio recording and backstage communications equipment for the performance venues classrooms and music studio/production stations. Manages audio equipment support and supplies for the performing arts venues including assigning available equipment to various theatrical dance music college and rental events scheduled in the same. Coordinates with College Technical Director on scheduling of events to ensure adequate physical resources and labor staffing are available. Supervises stage and event crews which include casual workers student workers and students completing coursework for credit. Trains and supervises students and employees on the operation care and maintenance of audio consoles and audio/video/streaming equipment and support systems in the performing arts venues. Maintains a safe work environment. Models and practices safe work habits. |
Required Qualifications & Experience: Four years professional experience in live audio engineering studio recording acoustic engineering audio system design and installation audio editing and/or similar support for live or recorded entertainment or a bachelors degree in Theatre Music Recording Arts and Technology Audio/Sound Design or related field plus two years professional experience. Familiarity with audio reinforcement and recording systems both digital and analog. Experience with audio recording and editing software and apps. Familiarity with a variety of musical instruments their handling and care and how they interface with electronic audio systems and facility/venue acoustics. Strong organizational and interpersonal skills. High degree of independence within a complex team of co-workers creativity and ingenuity for solving technical problems and high level of attention to detail including excellent record-keeping skills. Computer literacy skills: typing word processing cloud use and navigation internet use and navigation emails and email management peripheral/component use and configuration. The incumbent must have a demonstrated interest and/or ability in working in a multicultural/multiethnic environment. A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU. Desired Qualifications: Certification in specialty audio systems and technology such as Dante Certification for digital audio/video/networking systems or in L-Acoustics equipment and sound systems. Advanced degrees or certification(s) in audio technology audio engineering acoustics recording engineering or related fields. Experience working for a theatre repertory stock company production company or entertainment organization engaged in audio systems design installation maintenance and application. Professional audio design or recording experience for theatre film television or a related media/entertainment field. Familiarity with computer-aided design and drafting software. Experience with video equipment and/or streaming software and applications. |
