Summary: This position provides strategic and operational leadership for the Library Commons and User Services ensuring organizational effectiveness and high-quality user-centered services spaces and programs that support student success. The AUL leads collaborative service delivery across the Library Commons including facilities student staffing and co-curricular programming and fosters a culture of creativity collaboration and continuous improvement. This role also promotes the librarys visibility and develops strong collaborative relationships across campus and beyond. The User Services unit reports to the AUL. The Associate University Librarian (AUL) for Operations and Services reports to the University Librarian assumes leadership responsibilities in the University Librarians absence participates in policy development and advances priorities aligned with the mission and vision of UIS.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Minimum Qualifications:
Masters degree in library science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited school.
Minimum of five years of progressively responsible administrative or leadership experience in an academic or research library setting.
Demonstrated experience in project management and process improvement.
Experience using qualitative and quantitative methods to assess services and inform decisions.
Experience managing library spaces including technology-enhanced learning environments
Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated success in leading and managing organizational change and implementing strategic initiatives.
Demonstrated ability in designing and coordinating transformational initiatives and bringing them to timely and successful implementation.
Experience designing and delivering user-centered services and programs with a strong user-focused perspective.
Strong record of setting and achieving goals through self-directed work and collaboration.
Experience overseeing student employment programs or large distributed staffing models.
Ability to bring joy to library services by encouraging and supporting a productive and engaged community and environment in philosophy and practice.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
Clear vision of the evolving role of academic libraries in the 21st century.
Understands contemporary issues affecting higher education libraries and information
technology.
Scholarly perspective on the functions of the library in the academic community.
Strong analytical organizational and problem-solving skills.
Creative and user-oriented philosophy of library services.
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills that facilitate collegial working relationships
and effective advocacy for the library.
Travel Requirements:
0% This position may travel for professional conferences training or service assessment reasons as they occur. Currently there are no requirements to travel.
