Associate Project Controls Specialist/Project Controls Specialist

OVERVIEW

Marathon Petroleum Companys Illinois Refining Division in Robinson IL is seeking a Project Controls Specialist to work on the Project Controls team.The Project Controls Specialist willbe responsible forproviding cost engineering services for projects being managed within the Engineeringand MaintenanceDepartments.The candidate is an active project team member providing key input and analysis to project management tofacilitatetimelydecision making. The candidate shall manage changes to the project forecast and budget and constantlyinterface withEngineering Maintenance Accounting and Project Team personnel.

Relocation isapproved for this position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assistsin creating and updating project schedulesunderthe guidance of senior staff. Input schedule dataand support progress updates.Identifiesbasicscheduling issues andreportsthem to project leads.

  • Monitorsactual costs and commitments against theapproved budget. Prepares routine cost reports andassistwith cost variance analysis. Supports monthlycostforecasting and budgeting exercises.

  • Collects progress cost and schedule data from projectteams and contractors. Generates standard reportscharts and dashboards for internal and external use.

  • Ensures consistency and accuracy of project controldata across tools and platforms.

  • Assistsin calculating earned value metrics (CPI SPIetc.). Monitors andreportsproject performanceindicatorsunder supervision.Highlightstrends andperformance issues for further analysis by senior staff.

  • Tracks project changes and help assess their impact oncost and schedule. Maintains change logs and supportdocumentation for change requests.

  • Usesproject control systems and tools to input extractand manipulate data. Ensures data accuracy in controlsystems.

  • Coordinates with planners cost engineers and projectmanagers to ensure alignment of data and reporting.

  • Participates in team meetings and provide projectcontrols input as needed.

  • Follows established projectcontrolsprocedures andguidelines. Supports audits and internal reviews bymaintainingaccurateand up-to-date documentation

Additional Responsibilities

  • Supports planning for future budget submittals with Engineering/Maintenance/Budget Coordinator

  • Participates in turnaround project controls support.

  • Monitoring actual costs against the budget along with key metrics such as labor rates indirect ratio materialequipmentand operations cost.

  • Ensureaccurateand timeliness of cost reporting. This should include reviewing execution data to ensure forecasts reflectaccurateand future execution strategies.

  • Ensure compliance with Marathon applicable standards and best practices.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Minimum (Required) Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Three(3) years or more refining/petrochemical industry experience orzero(0) years or more of experience with aBachelors Degree.

  • Valid drivers license

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in engineeringconstructionmanagement or similar field.

  • Five(5)years heavy industrial refining or petrochemical project controls/management experience or three (3) years or more of experience with a bachelors degree

SKILLS

  • Excellent communication organization & planning skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office products-Excel PowerPoint etc.

SCHEDULE REQUIREMENTS

This positionworksa 4/10 schedule (10-hour days Monday-Thursday).Availability for callouts and weekend workin support of refinery needs.Potential for travel up to 15%
