Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Scholar Support the Associate Director provides programmatic and individualized support to undergraduate students who are recipients of university scholarships with specific responsibilities within the Virginia Tech Advantage scholarship program. The shared goal of the program is to guide scholarship recipients to participate fully in the opportunities afforded in the Virginia Tech undergraduate experience while progressing to a timely graduation.

The Associate Director serves as a supervisor for two graduate assistants who provide direct services to students in the Virginia Tech Advantage program. This includes onboarding training and continued professional development in the role of supporting students in the Virginia Tech Advantage program. The Associate Director alongside the Director will cultivate a strong working relationship with University Scholarships and Financial Aid (USFA) to provide a holistic experience to students in Virginia Tech Advantage.

Required Qualifications

Masters degree required. Extensive experience working with undergraduate students from a broad range of backgrounds and experiences. Experience in community development and program management with a demonstrated knowledge and understanding of student success and college access issues.

Demonstrated ability to plan and implement educational and informational programs in a higher education setting.

Strong interpersonal skills in order to communicate and collaborate effectively with a broad range of constituencies including students staff and faculty.

Have a working knowledge of student development theory student success best practices and tailored programming for students. Advanced computer skills involving databases spreadsheets word processing web based interactive communications social media and/or other applications utilizing software applicable to function.

Preferred Qualifications

Understanding complex organizational structures including student success. Experience in building professional partnerships with university departments student groups and community partners. Prior experience working with financial aid banner and other student progress monitoring software such as EAB

Navigate. Familiarity with available campus and community resources and help students navigate these resources.
