Assistant Vice President, Campus Services

Campus Services brings together the Student Union Boise State Dining Bronco Shop Bronco Card and Office of University Events to provide essential services spaces and experiences that support the daily life of the university community. Through these interconnected operations Campus Services helps the Division of Student Affairs and Enrollment Management connecting people resources facilities events and services in ways that make it possible for students to thrive at Boise State and beyond.

The Assistant Vice President of Campus Services (AVP) provides leadership operational oversight and management for Campus Services units and supports the development and implementation of related policies and procedures. This includes: the Student Union; Bronco Card; Office of University Events; Bronco Shop; and Boise State Dining and their associated functions. The position also oversees contracts for the universitys dining services and beverage pouring rights.

Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management (VPSAEM) the AVP operates within established divisional and university priorities and exercises substantial discretion in managing assigned operations. The position develops and maintains budgets operational controls ten-year capital and operating plans and required internal and external reporting subject to divisional and university review and approval.

The AVP exercises independent judgement and makes complex decisions in situations with established precedent to ensure departmental divisional and university objectives are achieved. The role regularly leads complex high-impact initiatives within Campus Services and may lead selected cross-functional projects affecting multiple university stakeholders. The role regularly collaborates with divisional leadership and appropriate university partners providing information and recommendations to senior leaders on matters affecting Campus Services.

Accountable for leading departments or major areas within a division through managers and directors. Works under broad administrative direction with responsibility for providing strategic leadership and direction in the planning implementing improving and evaluating of an administrative department and promoting operational improvements. Oversees and provides direction for budgets and operational forecasts. Makes complex independent decisions for situations with precedent to ensure department or area within a division objectives are met.

Personnel Leadership and Department Management

• Provide leadership and management of administrative personnel including hiring performance management and separation.
• Lead a unified department team by supporting communication team building professional development incentives and compensation review programs.
• Exercise discretion when handling confidential matters and information.
• Monitor work activities to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
• Recommend changes and improvements to existing standards policies and procedures.

Operational Leadership and Oversight

• Provide leadership and oversight for the operations of Boise State Dining Bronco Shop Bronco Card Office of University Events and Student Union.
• Plan implement administer and evaluate programs projects and services affecting Campus Services and the student and guest experience.
• Provide leadership for service levels merchandising organization facility maintenance standards sanitation and marketing and merchandising plans.
• Develop and maintain relationships with Student Union tenants to maximize facility effectiveness and operations.
• Strategically lead all auxiliary enterprise work assigned to Campus Services in a way that improves communication efficiencies and coordination among university stakeholders.

Financial Management and Resource Stewardship

• Manage and oversee financial management for assigned areas.
• Ensure internal controls are implemented consistently and comply with sound fiscal programs and processes.
• Provide leadership for multi-year financial forecasts budgets and analysis.
• Review and approve departmental financial reports and ensure appropriate corrective action reconciliation and forecasting within assigned areas.
• Evaluate and recommend operational improvements or new revenue or service opportunities for consideration through established divisional and university approval processes.
• Continuously identify ways to maximize the return on investment of all resources including personnel.

Strategic Planning Partnerships and Divisional Leadership

• Work collaboratively with the Student Affairs and Enrollment Management leadership team to develop and implement divisional plans and priorities aligned with the universitys strategic goals.
• Develop and implement long-range strategic plans for services and multi-use campus facilities in coordination with divisional leadership and appropriate university facilities partners.
• Engage in departmental and divisional problem-solving related to organizational issues and recommend efficiencies and opportunities for advancement.
• Plan and coordinate special administrative projects and assignments.
• Represent Campus Services and when specifically delegated the division on selected committees working groups initiatives and partnerships.
• Collaborate with campus and industry partners to evaluate establish and renew retail spaces and service contracts.

Capital Projects Facilities and Technology Innovation

• Serve as Campus Services executive sponsor or client representative for assigned capital projects.
• Participate in the selection and oversight of design professionals in accordance with divisional and university guidance and university procurement and facilities processes.
• Develop project budgets and oversee planning construction procurement user group engagement and project execution.
• Ensure capital projects adhere to established schedules and budgets.
• Continuously evaluate technological and facility innovations.
• Recommend emerging technologies that support process optimization and operational efficiency.

Contracts Procurement and Vendor Management

• Oversee the universitys dining and beverage pouring rights contracts including annual price negotiations.
• Lead the development of amendments requests for proposals and other bid documents as needed to update contracts or change vendors.
• Assist in developing and executing contracts for food services beverages services software and hardware facilities maintenance and related needs.
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Knowledge of policy and procedure development implementation and administration.
• Knowledge of applicable local state and federal laws regulations codes and compliance requirements.

• Knowledge of facilities systems and operations and their impact on design construction and project outcomes.
• Knowledge of contract development negotiation and management including food service operations and beverage pouring rights agreements.
• Knowledge of student development theory adult learning principles and higher education practices.
• Skill in strategic planning organizational leadership and administrative management.
• Skill in managing complex departmental operations and multiple functional areas.
• Ability to develop manage and monitor large and complex budgets.
• Ability to coordinate emergency response activities and risk management efforts.
• Ability to communicate effectively and build collaborative relationships with university leadership campus partners clients consultants vendors and external agencies.

Bachelors degree or equivalent plus 10 years of experience including 6 years of managerial experience.

The ideal candidate will have:

• 10 years of progressively responsible leadership experience in higher education including oversight of complex campus services auxiliary facility retail and/or event operations
• 10 years experience supervising and developing employees including responsibility for hiring onboarding training performance management team building and employee accountability.
• 10 years experience developing or administering emergency procedures safety and security protocols staff training and operational risk-management practices for high-traffic facilities and events.
• 10 years experience building collaborative relationships with university leaders students faculty staff tenants clients vendors contractors design professionals and other external partners.
• 10 years experience administering complex operating labor reserve and capital budgets.
• 10 years of active professional engagement in higher education campus services and/or college union administration including association leadership roles conference presentations professional education and contributions to the development of colleagues in the field.
• 5 years experience managing revenue-generating retail and service operations with responsibility for customer service merchandising marketing facility standards and financial performance.
• 5 years experience supporting or leading institutional contract development and administration particularly for dining services beverage agreements catering retail services or other auxiliary operations.
• 5 years experience planning or overseeing construction renovation facility improvement equipment replacement and capital projects within active multiuse facilities.
