Job Summary

Lake Forest College Department of Modern Languages and Literatures seeks a highly motivated tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish with expertise in Peninsular and/or Latin American Literatures and Cultures to begin August 2027. Areas of particular interest include but are not limited to: Biopolitics Gender/Sexuality/Queer Studies and/or Sociolinguistics. We welcome candidates who incorporate comparative interdisciplinary and cultural studies approaches in their teaching and scholarly work. Ph.D. (or ABD status with Ph.D. completed by start date) in Spanish or Hispanic Studies is required. Candidates should possess outstanding skills in and enthusiasm for teaching all levels of language literature and culture. Candidate materials should show evidence of or potential for college-level teaching effectiveness familiarity with education at a liberal arts institution and evidence of scholarly productivity commensurate with experience.

Specific responsibilities include teaching six courses annually at all levels. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence in a liberal arts setting that values interdisciplinary collaboration and diverse perspectives. Fluency in spoken written and reading Spanish for effective undergraduate teaching and scholarly engagement is required.

Candidates are expected to engage actively in departmental and campus-wide service academic advising and student-centered research organizations and programs. Candidates should possess outstanding skills in and enthusiasm for teaching in diverse classroom environments at all undergraduate college levels of language literature and culture. At Lake Forest College the quality of a faculty members teaching is the most important criterion for evaluation. The College also expects peer-reviewed publications and active participation in the College community. To support faculty research the college offers a paid semester-long research leave in the 4th or 5th year of service after a successful Third-Year Review.
