Texas A&M International University (TAMIU) a member of The Texas A&M University System welcomes applicants for the position of Assistant Professor of Petroleum Engineering (Artificial Intelligence) to begin Fall 2027.

For more information please visit is a tenure-track nine-month Assistant Professor of Petroleum Engineering position. A reduced teaching load supports research development. Primary duties will include establishing an independent externally funded research program at the intersection of artificial intelligence and petroleum engineering; contributing to the BS in Petroleum Engineering by designing and teaching AI-related petroleum engineering coursework; and mentoring student research and senior design projects. The successful candidate will also contribute to the AI-themed MS in Systems Engineering. Duties also include teaching Petroleum Engineering and engineering courses as needed; supporting recruitment accreditation curriculum development and School service; and collaborating with academic industry and government partners on interdisciplinary research. This position requires face-to-face interactions through a regular schedule of attendance on campus and in the workplace.
The School of Engineering offers ABET-accredited programs in Systems Computer and Petroleum Engineering. Its BS in Computer Science and MS in Systems Engineering launched in 2026 and its BS in Civil Engineering launches in 2027. This position will expand Petroleum Engineering faculty capacity to meet significant enrollment growth. This position is part of a strategic faculty expansion in the School of Engineering to hire 10 permanent faculty members eight tenure-track and two instructional beginning Fall 2027.
Required Qualifications
The successful candidate must hold a Ph.D. in Petroleum Engineering or a closely related discipline by the appointment start date. Applicants nearing completion may be considered if the degree is awarded before appointment. Candidates must demonstrate expertise at the intersection of artificial intelligence and petroleum engineering through research scholarship professional experience or a combination thereof; be able to design and teach AI-related petroleum engineering coursework; mentor student research; and establish an independent research program in this area. Areas of particular interest include emerging applications of artificial intelligence in petroleum engineering such as physics-informed AI and hybrid modeling; digital twins; generative AI; AI-enabled reservoir drilling or production optimization; and intelligent and autonomous systems. Experience or demonstrated ability to pursue externally funded research and collaborate with industry is especially desirable.
