Job Summary
As a part of a diverse community of faculty and staff who represent many faith systems and worldviews Marian University is seeking qualified applicants for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education position beginning August 2027. The Assistant Professor of Mathematics Education will promote our Catholic Franciscan mission and Identity by teaching mathematics methods and content courses in Marians elementary education program and will also be responsible for coordinating and supervising teacher candidates in their field placements.
In addition to teaching candidates are expected to engage in research and in service to the department college university and profession. Teaching-focused candidates with experience or expertise in K-8 mathematical preparation are encouraged to apply. The successful applicant would serve in a dual-appointment role with the Fred S. Klipsch Educators College and the Department of Mathematical & Computational Sciences.
The Fred S. Klipsch Educators College is recognized as an A-rated elementary mathematics education program. The mission of the Educators college is to attract prepare develop and support teachers and leaders who are guided by Franciscan values informed by theory and exemplary in practice. The Department of Mathematical & Computational Sciences is a collaborative academic community committed to fostering student engagement problem solving and communication. The department offers degrees in both Mathematics and Computer Science to develop transformative leaders for service to the world in a variety of areas of business government and education. Both departments recognize the breadth of people thought and experience that contribute to work in the mathematical sciences. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Actively engage the Catholic Franciscan mission and identity of Marian University by modeling the Franciscan Sponsorship Values and honoring the legacy of the founding congregation through transformative education unity in diversity leadership through service integrating faith and life and institutional policies.
- Teach mathematics methods and content courses (depending on the expertise of the successful candidate and departmental needs)
- Coordinate and supervise field placements for teacher candidates
- Share in the ongoing development and implementation of department and college activities and projects
- Engage in research scholarship and other professional activities
- Serve as an academic advisor for undergraduate students
- Participate in the life of the campus and university service including participation in faculty governance and co-curricular programs
- Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
- Earned terminal degree (PhD or EdD) in Mathematics Education Elementary Education Curriculum and Instruction or similar field with a concentration in Mathematics or STEM; ABD will be considered with degree awarded by August 20 2027. Alternatively a PhD in Mathematics will be considered with significant relevant teaching experience.
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching that is student-centered
- Commitment to engaging and supporting a diverse student population from a broad range of backgrounds including underrepresented low socioeconomic and first generation students
- Demonstrated potential for ongoing scholarship in mathematics education
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching mathematics in grades K-8 in a U.S. school setting
- Experience supervising and/or mentoring pre-service student teacher candidates especially in K-8 field placements
- Mathematical preparation equivalent to a Masters degree
- Experience successfully working with populations demographically and/or socioeconomically similar to Marians student body
- Potential for partnering with local schools
