Job Summary

The Moody College of Communication is seeking a full-time professional-track faculty member to coordinate manage and teach a large multi-section hybrid course on business and professional communication in collaboration with the Cockrell School of Engineering. No experience in the field of engineering is required. Moody College includes programs in Advertising and Public Relations Communication Studies Journalism and Media Radio-Television-Film and Speech Language and Hearing Sciences. The faculty appointment may be in any of the Colleges schools or departments depending on the candidates expertise and experience.

The ideal candidate for this role will be able to communicate effectively and maintain positive working relationships with a range of campus partners in multiple disciplines. They will demonstrate professionalism and responsiveness in both electronic and interpersonal interactions. The ideal candidate is organized proactive and demonstrates a high level of solution-oriented thinking maturity and integrity.

Moody College of Communication: Duties and Responsibilities

Teaching duties and course assignments will depend on the interests and capabilities of the individual and departmental instructional needs. Job responsibilities will include coordinating assigned sections of the engineering communication course each long semester and each summer along with sections abroad during May term while executing the duties associated with course management for all sections. These duties may include:

  • Developing and revising curriculum as necessary.
  • Supervising and training current instructors and teaching assistants on course materials such as lectures activities and assignments.
  • Identifying and onboarding new instructors and teaching assistants as necessary.
  • Overseeing day-to-day operations of the course including course syllabi and course web pages.
  • Providing data-driven updates to leadership and other campus stakeholders.
  • Providing support for periodic accreditation reviews.
  • Acting as the liaison between the Moody College Cockrell School and the technical support team.


Strong candidates for this role will have the following:

  • A doctorate in Communication Studies Journalism or a related field.
  • Demonstrated teaching excellence in the field of communication at the college level.
  • Experience managing a multi-section course with a large teaching team.
  • Experience teaching or managing a hybrid course.
  • Experience in training or learning development (e.g. supervising teaching assistants).
  • Experience working in a cross-functional or interdisciplinary environment.
  • Experience with instructional design especially in hybrid environments.
  • Experience with technical science or other STEM-related communication.
  • An exceptional command of written and spoken Standard American English contributing to the clear and effective communication of ideas.
