Assistant Professor of Instruction, Digital Innovation, Film and Television Program

The Department of Communication at Xavier University invites application for a full-time non-tenure track position as Assistant/Associate Professor of Instruction beginning Fall 2027 in the Digital Innovation Film and Television Program (DIFT). The DIFT program cultivates students to become responsible adaptable and innovative leaders in a complex and rapidly converging digital environment. With a concentration on digital media production and the art of visual storytelling DIFT endeavors to prepare students through hands on learning cross-disciplinary study team building and community engagement. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in multiple areas and will be equipped to teach a variety of production writing and theory courses depending on need and expertise. Xaviers DIFT program is committed to social justice and integrating this philosophy in courses. Evidence of college level teaching is desirable as well as significant professional work in the field of digital film and television production.

Expectations include:

• Teaching assigned courses as part of the standard teaching load of 4 courses per semester.
• Effective planning and preparation of lectures discussions and activities to support student success.
• Using Xaviers campus-wide academic program Canvas to provide course information and maintain an electronic record of students progress.
• Working cooperatively with members of the department and university community.

Qualifications

• M.F.A. in Digital Film and Television Production or Equivalent at time of appointment. (Advanced Industry Experience will be considered.)
• Proficiency in digital filmmaking and background in Adobe Suite.
• Understanding of and experience with equipment ranging from cameras (lenses and bodies) to sound/audio lighting producing screenwriting editing and understanding of film and television aesthetics.
• Innovation in areas of expertise is desired.
