Job Summary
Assistant Professor of Classics
The Department of Classics at Stanford University seeks applicants for a tenure-track position as Assistant Professor in Greek Language and Literature with specialization either in Greek prose of the Classical era or Greek literature of the Hellenistic or Imperial periods. Ability to teach courses in one or more of the following areas is a desired additional skill:epigraphy papyrology paleography textual criticism comparative-historical linguistics ancient religion. The candidate will be expected to teach and advise students at both the graduate and undergraduate levels and must hold a PhD in Classics by the start of the term of appointment (September 1 2027).
Applicants should also have a consistent record of quality teaching and demonstrate the pedagogical skills required to design and teach a variety of courses in the original languages and in translation at all levels as well as to mentor undergraduate and graduate students. The annual teaching load is four courses over three quarters.

The salary range for this position is $115133 - $135388 for academic year 2026-27.
