The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at California State University Fullerton invites applications for a tenuretrack Assistant Professor position in Geotechnical Engineering with an appointment to begin Fall 2027. Position
CSUF faculty are committed teacher/scholars who bring research and creative discovery to life for students in classrooms labs studios and individually mentored projects. They teach broadly in the curricula of their departments advise students and serve on departmental and university-wide committees. The primary responsibilities of the person in this position will include the development and teaching of introductory and core courses in the discipline and the development of courses in their area(s) of specialization. Specific courses that this person will teach include undergraduate and graduate courses in geotechnical engineering and related civil engineering lecture and laboratory courses. This person will also be responsible for producing scholarly and creative work commensurate with the requirements for tenure. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the department advise students serve on committees and participate in the broader university and disciplinary communities.

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in geotechnical engineering or a related field.
  • Undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Ability to teach undergraduate and graduate courses including laboratory courses.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and excellence in undergraduate teaching of a very diverse student population including firstgeneration college students.
  • Demonstrated potential for effective integration of technology into instruction.
  • A strong record of scholarly accomplishments through high-quality peer-reviewed publications in the past five years.
  • High potential to develop and pursue an independent externally funded research program involving undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Demonstrated laboratory-based research experience.
  • Ability and willingness to promote undergraduate and graduate student success through research mentorship advising cocurricular activities and other high-impact practices.
  • Ability to balance excellent teaching scholarship andservice.
  • Professional registration as a Civil Engineer or ability and willingness to get Professional Engineering (PE) licensure within five years of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • University-level teaching experience in Civil Engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience pursuing externally funded research projects.
  • Post-baccalaureate professional work experience in Civil Engineering.

Compensation
The Assistant Professor (Academic Year) classification salary range is $6221 to $13224 monthly (12 monthly payments per academic year). The anticipated hiring range is $8233 to $8394 per month.

Salary offered is commensurate with experience and addition the California Equal Pay Act prohibits employers from paying its employees less than those of the opposite sex and/or another race or ethnicity for substantially similar work ( research grants moving expenses startup funds and a reduced teaching load may be available.
