Job Summary

Job Overview:

  • Under the direction of the Water Treatment Plant Manager assists with the supervision and participates in the operation direction repair maintenance and regulatory compliance of the Citys water treatment operations. Provides day-to-day leadership to staff and helps ensure safe reliable and efficient water service.



Specific Tasks Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the daily operation maintenance and repair of water treatment facilities and related equipment.
  • Supervise train and direct assigned personnel and assist with employee performance concerns.
  • Respond to water quality complaints investigate concerns document findings and coordinate corrective action.
  • Inspect and operate chemical feeders pumps treatment equipment and related systems.
  • Change chlorine cylinders and perform other duties necessary to maintain continuous treatment and disinfection.
  • Collect water samples perform required testing evaluate results and determine appropriate operational response.
  • Maintain accurate records reports and files required by the City and applicable regulatory agencies.
  • Help ensure compliance with federal and state water treatment requirements.
  • Develop and maintain preventive maintenance and service schedules for treatment equipment and facilities.
  • Monitor operations and recommend improvements repairs or equipment upgrades.
  • Respond to after-hours operational issues and make appropriate decisions based on system needs.
  • Assist with investigations involving work-related accidents incidents or operational concerns.
  • Coordinate safety practices and help ensure employee compliance with established procedures.
  • Attend required meetings conferences workshops and training.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


Worker Requirements:

Education Licenses & Certifications

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Valid Louisiana drivers license.
  • Class I or Class II certifications in water production treatment and distribution.

Preferred:

  • Class III certifications in water production treatment and distribution.
  • Five years of experience in water treatment operations.
  • Two years of supervisory experience.



Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of water treatment operations equipment sampling and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations related to water treatment operations.
  • Ability to interpret water quality results and make appropriate operational decisions.
  • Ability to supervise train and provide direction to employees.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and complete required reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees supervisors regulatory agencies and the public.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to operational problems and emergency conditions.



Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Ability to perform moderate to heavy physical activity including standing walking bending climbing lifting pushing and pulling.
  • Ability to work around treatment chemicals mechanical equipment noise and other operational hazards while using required protective equipment.


Hours/Scheduling

  • Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • May be required to fill in for other shifts as operational needs require.
  • Overtime may be required based on operational needs.
  • Available to respond to disaster events or emergency calls twenty-four (24) hours a day seven (7) days a week.
