Job Summary
Primary Purpose
The Assistant General Counsel position will work in the Office of General Counsel to provide legal advice and counsel to the leaders of Appalachian State University.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The Assistant General Counsel must demonstrate: high ethical standards including a strong work ethic honesty and integrity; ability to identify and resolve legal issues; commitment to the support and fulfillment of the universitys mission; ability to employ excellent listening oral and written communication skills; interpersonal skills; research and analytical skills; reasoned judgment; ability to prioritize tasks and organize work; ability to supervise staff in the fulfillment of the office mission; ability to combine legal considerations with program and policy objectives in the development of practical solutions that meet client needs; word processing and related skills to create edit and publish legal memoranda briefs contracts and other work products
Minimum Qualifications
Candidates must be admitted to the North Carolina bar or be admitted to the bar of another state and prepared to seek immediate admission in North Carolina within one year of the date of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
Focused experience in one or more of the following areas is also preferred: IT/ ITS -related services; Contract review and drafting (particularly for higher education or governmental clients); Research Intellectual Property Sponsored Programs and Regulatory Compliance
