Job Summary
The Altamont School is seeking a passionate knowledgeable and committed Assistant Head Baseball Coach/Pitching Coach to join our athletics program. This position provides an exciting opportunity for an experienced baseball coach to work alongside the Head Coach in developing student-athletes both on and off the field.
The ideal candidate will help plan organize and implement a comprehensive baseball training program within a positive learning environment that encourages student-athletes to develop and fulfill their athletic potential. The Assistant Head Baseball Coach/Pitching Coach will play an important role in developing our pitching program while supporting the overall goals culture and philosophy of the baseball program.
The successful candidate will work closely with the Head Coach to design and lead effective practices develop individual player skills and create meaningful opportunities for athletes to grow technically physically mentally and socially. The coach should be passionate about baseball and committed to helping student-athletes build confidence discipline teamwork accountability and a strong work ethic.
- Assist the Head Coach in planning organizing and implementing daily practices training sessions and game preparation.
- Lead the development and implementation of the baseball pitching program including pitching mechanics arm care conditioning strength development and injury-prevention strategies.
- Provide individualized instruction and feedback to pitchers and other student-athletes to help them maximize their athletic development.
- Assist with developing practice plans that address the technical tactical physical and mental aspects of the game.
- Help create a positive competitive and supportive team culture that reflects the values and mission of The Altamont School.
- Serve as a positive mentor and role model for student-athletes emphasizing sportsmanship character accountability and academic responsibility.
- Work collaboratively with the Head Coach and other members of the athletics department to support the overall success of the baseball program.
- Assist with game-day responsibilities including pre-game preparation in-game coaching player development and post-game evaluation.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with student-athletes families coaches school administrators and athletics staff.
- Maintain a safe respectful and inclusive environment for all student-athletes.
- Positively represent The Altamont School and its mission both on and off the field.
- Participate in preseason preparation team meetings and other coaching responsibilities as needed.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- Previous baseball coaching and/or playing experience preferably at the high school collegiate or competitive club level.
- Strong knowledge of baseball fundamentals particularly pitching mechanics development and arm-care practices.
- A demonstrated ability to teach and develop student-athletes with varying levels of experience and ability.
- Strong communication leadership organization and interpersonal skills.
- A genuine interest in working with and mentoring adolescents.
- A commitment to developing student-athletes as individuals as well as athletes.
- The ability to work collaboratively as part of a coaching and school community.
- A commitment to sportsmanship integrity professionalism and the educational mission of The Altamont School.
This is a part-time coaching position. The baseball season generally runs from February through May with practices and preseason responsibilities beginning prior to the official start of the season. The schedule will include practices games team preparation and other responsibilities associated with the baseball program.
