The College is seeking candidates for this position who can demonstrate a record of success in coaching baseball and recruiting student-athletes at the collegiate addition candidates will support the strength and conditioning coach in managing and running training for various teams assigned. Successful coaches at Beloit College recruit coach and mentor students who seek development through active involvement in our diverse and dynamic campus so that their education and success on the pitch are mutually reinforcing. Candidates must demonstrate capacity to successfully recruit academically and athletically qualified student-athletes in partnership with the Beloit College Enrollment Office.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

Baseball coaching and mentoring

  1. Effectively assist the head baseball coach in all aspects.
  2. Build strong positive relationships to effectively mentor and teach students.
  3. Teach students the skills needed to work with others to be effective leaders and to manage their time to achieve success in the classroom and in athletics.
  4. Assist with all preparation and teaching for all practices and competitions.
  5. Working with the head coach establish appropriate codes of behavior for all team functions including all practices and competitions.
  6. Mentor students through regular meetings to enhance their academic performance.
  7. Work with students to establish individual and team goals for each season.

Recruiting

  1. Effectively assist the head baseball coach in all aspects.
  2. Collaborate with colleagues in enrollment and athletics on complementary student recruitment approaches.
  3. Communicate with prospective students and their influencers about Beloit as a college search option through a wide variety of contact channels including email texting phone calls and social media.
  4. Develop a sense of rapport with prospective audiences.
  5. Recruit student-athletes in alignment with the goals and methods of Beloits enrollment office and in accordance with NCAA and MWC rules and regulations.
  6. Attend high school games showcases camps and other recruiting events.
  7. Meet with prospective students and families during open houses daily campus visits and off-campus receptions.

Strength and conditioning coaching

  1. Effectively assist the strength and conditioning coach in a part-time capacity.
  2. Obtain and maintain required certifications.
  3. Build rapport with student-athletes across teams to foster an encouraging impactful training environment.

Campus involvement and administrative duties

  1. Be an active member of the Beloit College community.
  2. Be actively involved in the Colleges efforts to become an anti-racist institution in each of the primary functions of coaching mentoring recruiting and involvement throughout campus.
  3. Represent sports programs to various institutional constituencies as well as students parents the public and external agencies.
  4. Practice responsible fiscal management.
  5. Assist head coach in coordinating all post-season awards and banquets.
  6. Assist head coach with inventory and management of all equipment and uniforms.

Credentials and Experience:

  1. Bachelors degree required.
  2. Previous coaching experience required.
  3. Have or be able to obtain CSC (Certified Strength Coach) before employment required.
  4. Experience planning organizing and prioritizing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions is required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  1. Ability to understand and appreciate the mission of a residential liberal arts college and to work well in a fast-paced office with diverse faculty staff students alums and the public in a variety of situations.
  2. Ability to develop and to contribute to learning and work environments welcoming to people from a diverse variety of backgrounds and experiences.
  3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills including grammar punctuation spelling and proofreading.
  4. Flexibility and willingness to adapt to changing activities expectations and responsibilities.
  5. Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to think critically effectively prioritize plan and organize multiple tasks and projects and meet set deadlines without immediate and constant supervision.
  6. Knowledge of customer service standards and the ability to communicate effectively with faculty administrators staff students families of students prospective students and their families and the public.
  7. Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
  8. Possess a strong vision and philosophical commitment to the integration of Division III athletics and education in the highly selective residential liberal arts college environment.
  9. Ability to maintain confidentiality and to safeguard the confidentiality of records.
  10. Willingness to look for improvements in personnel and office performance and initiate proposals that enhance the work of the office.

Special Requirements:

  1. Ability to work nights and weekends.
  2. Travel required.
  3. Adherence to all NCAA and MWC rules is required.

Physical Requirements:

  1. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk as well as standing and walking during practices and games.
  2. Ability to lift push pull and transport items weighing up to 25 pounds independently.
  3. May require working outdoors in varying weather conditions
