Job Summary

Position Description


Under general supervision of Public Works Superintendent performs a variety of road maintenance repairs and construction duties.


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Performs a variety of asphalt road maintenance including pothole patching asphalt repairs debris removal and traffic signs.

  • Operates light construction equipment including pick-up trucks shoveling (dirt asphalt or stone) and sweeping associated with asphalt road construction

  • Assist in operations of various equipment i.e. milling machine paver and roller.

  • Performs routine daily maintenance including pre/post trip inspections checking and filling fluids report repairs and cleaning all offices work area equipment and facilities

  • Performs construction duties including setting up traffic control flagging/directing traffic and utilizing hand tools

  • Handles road materials including hot asphalt oils gravel limestone concrete compounds and crack sealer material

  • Perform any additional tasks or responsibilities as assigned by management or as necessitated by the evolving needs of the organization.

Requirements

Education:

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution

Licensure:

  • Valid Class C Texas drivers license required

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:

  • Must be proficient in multi-tasking to meet deadlines provided

  • Ability to document activities both written and electronic

  • Ability to work in a professional manner with all levels of management staff and public.

General Information

Hours:

  • A regular full-time position requiring the employee to work 40 hours per week.

  • This may include weekends and holidays.

Work Environment:

  • Work is on active construction sites involving pervasive hazards associated with heavy equipment and tool operations; speeding traffic; loud and constant noise; and regular exposure to chemicals dust fumes and combustible materials.

  • Required to work outdoors on varied and often unstable terrain involving exposure to varying weather conditions of extreme hot and cold temperatures.

  • Some working conditions require special precautions and the use of protective gear (e.g. hard hats respirator masks gloves etc.).

Physical Demands:

  • Essential functions involve significant physical demands related to repeated lifting of up to 50 pounds unassisted 100 pounds with assistance rarely; carrying tools materials and equipment over rough terrain; climbing reaching and bending.

  • Frequently required to walk sit talk drive hear bend stoop twist and balance; need the ability to occasionally kneel and crawl; need the ability to grasp manual controls and the ability to use foot controls and operate gas diesel and electrically powered equipment.

Employment may be contingent on passing a drug screen and meeting other standards.
