Job Summary

Position(s):ASD Elementary Teacher (Grades K-4) - Holbrook Elementary

Summary: Under the direct supervision of the School Principal and in accordance with established policies and procedures the Teacher Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) performs a variety of tasks necessary to support direct and indirect instruction for identified with students in the district.

The Teacher - ASD develops and implements an Individualized Educational Program (IEP) for each student. The teacher provides direct student instruction. Coordinates the work of instructional aides and other support staff. This individual will strive to team with related service staff parents and other outside agencies in helping each individual student reach his or her maximum potential.

Please note that any valid special education endorsement is permissible for this position as long as the candidate without an ASD endorsement is willing to obtain their endorsement; the cost for obtaining this endorsement is covered by the district under LOA #15. This full-time position is designed for an individual who is committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of ASD utilize evidence-based practices and collaborate effectively with staff families and the community to promote the academic and social growth of students. The position also includes an additional $3800 stipend for Special Education Teachers and 4 contractual IEP days for completing paperwork.

Reports to: Building Principal

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide evidence-based assessment instruction and interventions that are matched to student needs using data-driven instructional decision-making problem solving and progress monitoring through a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework to positively impact student growth and achievement.
  • Determines and implements a curriculum appropriate to specific classroom assignment.
  • Develops and implements an individual education plan (IEP) for each student. Requires an understanding of each students physical cognitive and adaptive levels of functioning.
  • Plans daily instructional activities to reflect individual student needs.
  • Provides direct instruction. Uses appropriate and research-based instructional practices in classroom.
  • Works cooperatively with related services staff (e.g. Speech OT PT SSW).
  • Evaluates student progress as determined by the IEPT.
  • Communicates regularly with parents and home-care providers regarding each students progress.
  • Provides educational and training information to instructional aides.
  • Participates in planned professional development activities.
  • Maintains regular communication with supervisor particularly regarding special needs of individual students.
  • Participates with peers in staff meetings student staffings and other scheduled events.
  • Maintains student attendance records.
  • Maintains records of progress toward program outcomes for each student and documents special incidents which may occur.
  • Completes regular reports on student progress.
  • Coordinates and guides the work of the classroom instructional aides.
  • Ensures that classroom equipment materials and supplies are maintained in clean safe and proper working condition.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Michigan Teacher Certification
  • Possession of Autism Spectrum Disorder (SV) Endorsement OR Willingness to Obtain Endorsement
  • Obtain and maintain Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI)-Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certification (Training Provided by District).

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger handle or feel objects tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; talk or hear; and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit and stoop kneel crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally life and/or move up to 35 pounds such as books and teaching material.
