This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) ASA tutor positions for the Academics for Student-Athletes unit at Oregon State University (OSU).
Academics for Student-Athletes (ASA) provides holistic academic support for OSU athletes by offering a variety of programs and services including peer tutoring. Tutors play a vital role in helping athletes thrive in their classes by guiding them as they deepen their understanding of academic concepts and develop skills such as note taking and organization. Tutors are matched with requests based on their expertise in content areas their major and their broader OSU coursework.
Position Duties:
- Tutor OSU athletes in content areas and skill development
- Maintain updated schedule availability and completed courses in ASA online platform
- Compose thorough notes after each appointment and submit them promptly in the ASA online platform
- Take initiative to ask questions and bring situations and issues as needed to direct supervisor and/or ASA staff
- Establish and maintain professional boundaries in appointments
- Evaluate students needs and learning styles in appointments and tailor tutoring strategies to match them
- Follow the ASA professional distance policy and NCAA regulations applicable to academic tutoring
- Communicate with staff and athletes from a variety of different backgrounds
- Participate in mandatory training each quarter to advance tutoring strategies
