Join our team as an Art Instructor and inspire students to explore their creativity develop technical artistic skills and build confidence through meaningful visual expression. We are seeking a passionate and student-centered educator who is committed to delivering engaging high-quality instruction across high school art curricula while fostering an inclusive and supportive classroom environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong knowledge of art media instructional pedagogy and differentiated teaching practices that support the success of all learners.

In this role the Art Instructor will design and implement purposeful lesson plans aligned with instructional goals and curriculum standards while utilizing a variety of teaching strategies assessments and creative learning opportunities to engage students both intellectually and artistically. The successful candidate will collaborate with guidance staff special education personnel and support service educators to ensure all student needs are met including the implementation of IEP and 504 accommodations and modifications.

The Art Instructor will cultivate a positive classroom culture built on mutual respect creativity and active learning. Responsibilities also include maintaining effective communication with students and families participating in professional development and collaborative school initiatives and upholding the highest standards of professionalism in accordance with the Connecticut Code of Professional Responsibility. To be considered for this position Art Instructors must possess an activeState of Connecticut teaching certificate in one of the following areas:

  • 042 Art PK-12
  • OR Eligible for a State of Connecticut teaching certificate in subject area (includes ARC candidates).

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)
In the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System this class is accountable for educating students in academic and trade coursework.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Responsibility Area #1: Planning and Preparation
  • Engage in intentional planning to prepare lesson plans that achieve clear objectives use appropriate
  • techniques and serve the needs of all learners in the classroom through differentiation
  • Knowledge of Art media and content and pedagogy of all high school Art curricula
  • Understand the varied needs of each student
  • Work collaboratively with guidance personnel and other support service educators to assist students
  • with special programming; ensure IEP and 504 accommodations/modifications are implemented
  • Set instructional goals and outcomes

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Professional experiences related to the field of teaching Art.
  • Experience with 21st century standards-based lesson planning aligned to the CT Arts Standards and CT Core Standards in English Language Arts.
  • Experience with varied assessments to inform instruction and promote learning.
  • Ability to foster and facilitate learning and classroom management.
  • Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Effective active listening skills.
  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with others.
  • Organizational and problem solving skills.
  • Excellent public relations skills.
  • Entry-level computer skills including Microsoft Office and Google Products.
  • Experience in teaching or substitute teaching and be able to demonstrate varied methods of lesson delivery assessing student knowledge and the use of educational technology. This may include involvement in student/community activities.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Incumbents must possess at time of appointment a valid certificate issued by the Connecticut State Board of Education in accordance with the Certification Regulations Concerning State Educator Certificates Permits and Authorizations with a secondary school endorsement.
